I just purchased some Herters dove and quail #6 1oz for $4.86 a box and herters pheasant load at 1and 1/8 # 5 for $6.74 a box
Seems fair priced to me?
Anyone have any experience with this stuff?
If so would the 1oz #6 be any good for short range pheasant?
Sorry for all the questions just trying to reassure myself in my recent purchase. Thanks!!!

I have shot cases of Herters in both 16 and 12 gauge. At that price you can’t beat it.

I've used Herter's 1 oz, #6 for pen raised pheasants over dogs for three years. Absolutely no complaints. Shoot well, hit hard. Good stuff.

I've got 2.5 flats of the #6 1oz Herters, and just bought 2 flats of the #8 1oz Herters. I've probably got another flat of the #8 already shot also.

It's a great load at a great price.
I shoot the #8 for skeet, easier than reloading for 16ga.
I shoot the #6 for dove and quail and pigeon. #8 also for dove.
I load bismuth #4 and steel #3 in the hulls for ducks.

The hull makes for a VERY good reload as a bonus!

For the most part, the things go bang and stuff flies down range. I did experience a weak load while quail hunting in Nebraska recently. That is the only one in over 800 rounds. Although I can load better shells and I wouldn't rate the Herter's as top notch shells, I would say they're "average" and that isn't too bad considering the price. I have seen worse ammo at higher prices. I buy them up when they go on sale cheap, use them for targets, doves, crows, and occasionally quail, then save the empties for my reloads. I wish Remingtons would go as cheap, just so I could expand my hull options.

Was the sale online or local? I’d love to get in on that action.

How good are the pheasant loads? The 1 1/8oz 5's seem like they would be good long range chukar medicine, depending on how well they pattern.

I'm checking daily for #8's back in stock. Not that I need them but at that price it pays to stock up.
