Anyone here shooting a double cyl/cyl? If so, how do you like it, and what are you using it on primarily? |

I have a 16 gauge Fox Sterlingworth. I love it and use it primarily for Woodcock & Grouse. Almost all of my shots are inside 20 yards so it is perfect. I even put RST spreaders in it sometimes when we use flushing dogs for the woodcock. Shots are usually very very close.
I have more modern guns with choke tubes and I almost always use Skeet/IC. |

Frequently preserve shoot cyl/skeet (000/005)
On wild quail I go cyl/IC (000/010) On wild pheasant and prairie chicken I go Skeet/Mod (005/015)
I have not used more than 015 in years |

My Stevens 530 double was 28" full & full. I had it cut to 25" and properly finished a few years ago to use on wood ducks (hunting small creeks in a canoe). I figured I'd add a screw-in choke to the second barrel as I had done on a 12g. I haven't added that choke because the 16g C&C barrel set is working well on woodies, timber-doodles & swamp-bunnies. Bismuth & ITX loads out to 25y. |

Thx for your replies. I asked because I have a lead on a 16 ga. shooter grade British sxs with fixed cyl/cyl. I've never tried out cylinder bore, but this gun would be used for sporting clays and some upland game potentially. |

Hey duckdup, when you had those changes made to that 530, did you find it effected the bbl regulation any? I'm considering the adding of a screw choke to one bbl on the double I mentioned. Concerned about potential of fouling up bbl regulation if threads are not spot on.
Wait, scratch that...you didn't add the screw in choke did you. |

Wahoo, I didn't on the 16 but did on the 12. It was well done and didn't effect the POI. Almost identical except the skeet 2 choke had a tighter pattern.
The cutting of the 16 actually improved the regulation. Left barrel shot low before cutting. Both barrels put an average 85 to 90 #8 pellets each into 24" circle at 20 yards (indoor range). That was with Herter's 1oz dove loads, average of two shots from each barrel. |

I've had two cylinder guns. One and Ithaca flues 16 ga had 26" ct barrels. I used it on grouse and it was okay for very close shots< 25 yards. Rather have some choke in the second barrel, though. Also had a Remington Model 11 with a 26 inch cut barrel. It was hell on the cottontails, and I even got one rooster with it. But I sold it after i wounded a rooster at 25 yards and lost it. That was when I was about 17. Bought and sold the Remington for $40... |

Cyl/Cyl would be fine for pen birds and dog training. Also good for wobble trap... |

Mom had a Stevens 311 16 ga. that was cyl./ cyl. I used it a lot during my college years. I owned three 12 ga. guns that were choke the same. What I found is that cylinder is outstanding for steel shot out to about 40 yards if you don't go too heavy on the pellet size and that combo proved absolute murder on waterfowl over the decoys. It also works out real well with lead for blue & ruffed grouse, bobwhite quail, snipe, doves, and released pheasants. |

I shoot a Cyl/Cyl/Cyl choked 1148 nicknamed Brushhog on occasion for upland Grouse & Bunny's out to ~25y works fine for early season, prefer a little tighter choke for later season. As mentioned Cyl works great with steel shot for decoyed birds out to ~35y. |

Vintage sxs, 2.5" chambers, cyl/cyl bores. I know I will need to pattern to get final answer, but to get started, of the following options, what makes since for initial shells purchase to try out for patterning to use shooting sporting clays?
1. 1200 vel, 1 oz, 7.5, 8, 9
2. 1125 vel, 3/4 oz, 7.5,8,9
3. 1125 vel, 7/8 oz, 7.5 ,8 , 9
3. 1100 vel, 3/4 oz, 7.5, 8, 9 |
