For 7/8oz loads I've really become a big fan of the SG16 wad. 15 Grains of Green Dot makes a very effective mild recoil dove, bunny and target load. Works well in cold weather too. I can load Federal and green Remingtons with no changes to my press.(Mec 600)

Same load I use Great load.

Trail,

I found some loads, using Red Dot in a Federal hull. The issue would be finding enough Remington R16 wads to make it worth your while. Even if you did find the wads the Red Dot will give powder migration problems.

From the link above, notice the powder charges and pressures required to achieve 1200 fps in the 2 hulls.

What do you suppose CB means by X-Pert hulls? We know Hodgedon means PF hulls, when they print new loads,...right....?

Given that compression formed hulls were discontinued 20 years ago and Claybuster has been making 16ga wads for < 10 years I would think Xpert likely refers to the current polyformed hulls.

Despite what you might think from reading this forum, most of the world has moved on since the dawn of the 21st century.

I heard that!
There's still a lot of folks, quoting old loads, from legacy loading manuals. That seems to be where the "slight" confusion comes into play...in my eyes, anyway.
Even the new loads, provided by the powder company's, seem labeled wrong on occasion...or call out the Rem wad, as that was the most common, in straight wall hulls...
Confused

Don't hurry. New doesn't always mean better.
