I am wanting to load some 7/8oz loads for a couple of my 16 ga guns. Mainly for lower felt recoil and to use less shot. I have plenty of AA16 wads for 1oz loads. I have various quantities of a number of different brand hulls. My first thought is to just buy the DR16. However, there are several options that Ballistic Products sells that could work as well. Based on your experience, would you recommend a wad other than the DR16 for this purpose? |

this should start some backlash , but a big ole cheerio of the cheap brand kind , and the load you are using with 7/8oz of shot will get you started as cheaply as you can get ! |

If you look back a couple years on this site you will find a long discussion on this subject. A lot of use used the cheerio trick but had trouble with munching on them while loading.
I found that a pinto bean or two dropped in before dropping the shot worked real well and I wasn't tempted to munch on them. Pattern testing showed that they threw a good pattern and the pinto bean even punched thru the pattern paper in the center of the pattern! |

I actually switched from pinto beans to airsoft BB's for filler when needed. Their lighter and uniform in size. Not as cheap but not pricey in the grand scheme of things. |

All I load is 7/8 oz. and have had very good performance from the SG-16 wads. |

Federal and green Remingtons' 15 grns of Green Dot Win. 209 primer SG 16 and 7/8 oz.of shot is my very favorite target/dove load. I'd say the SG16 is the most versatile wad out there. I tear the petals off and add a spreader insert for close work. |

If you also load for the 20 ga and happen to have any Federal 20 ga 7/8 oz wads on hand they work well in the RGL 16ga hull for 7/8 oz loads |

For 7/8 in the RGL I've used thousands of SG20L wads with good success. When mine are gone, I'll probably buy the CB0078-16. I haven't yet, but I'd think somebody on the board can testify to how they work for 7/8 in the RGL.

The CB0078-16 is a wonderful match for the RGL hull.
Jot down or copy/paste everything Mike Campbell has to say about reloading 16 gauge shells. |

My reference to using pinto beans was simply the way I used what I had for 7/8oz loads until I could get until I got some DR16 wads which work great with no additions needed.

Mr. Erickson has it correct. The CB0078-16 wad works great in the RGL hull. with 7/8 oz. of lead shot. |

In comparison to the other fellows I a newbt to reloading the 16. Having said that I went to the DR-16 based on a lot of good advice found here and never had a reason to look further for 7/8 or 1oz loads. I use Fed, Chedite, and Fio hulls but, know Mr Campbell has extensively used the DR-16 with RGL as well to good effect.

The capacity of the SG16 wad cup is about 5/8 oz of #7 1/2 so you could go that low with no filler if you trim the hull down. |
