A quite high condition, 1920s vintage, 16-gauge Riverside Arms Co. No. 215 has appeared at my local pawn shop. Looks like it has spent its entire life sitting in the corner of Grandma's closet. Anyone here familiar with these? Any issues to watch out for? From a 1928 Stoeger catalog --

Riverside Arms Company was a Stevens owned house brand of inexpensive shotguns.

According to Nicholas Niles' "Affordable Double Barrel Shotguns in America," the Riverside 215 was produced from 1914 until 1927. It retailed for $13.50 in 1914. According to Niles, a total of 100,000 215s were made during that period, but he doesn't give a breakdown on how many were made in 16 gauge.

Are they cast or forged frames?

I have my dad's 16 ga. Springfield-Stevens Model 215, made sometime between 1930 and 1932. Dad sold it to his friend before I was old enough to shoot it. Dad's friend cut off the barrels " to shoot rats" at the local grain elevator where he worked. A couple of years before he died, I asked dad's friend if I could buy the gun back from him. He said he would sell it, but he would give it to me!

I'd love to find a set of barrels for it and would consider buying the Riverside 215 just to see if the barrels would fit my Springfield-Stevens 215.

I have a 315....its not the same gun, it's a boxlock.

BUT...

I will say this, its is a well made shotgun from the same manufacturer and the same production period.
I have no doubt it is a perfectly serviceable double, possibly weighty, but gauge specific on the frame and barrels.

I think you'll have a blast in the field with it.

Mine happens to be one of my very favorite guns.
