Dave, I like that game shears idea. Quality tools that one could use and last for years.

Cold Iron mentioned the Slimline Trapper...great knife.

I do like the classic bird hunter style too, simply for nostalgia.

If anybody prefers a licking knife, I highly recommend you look at a Mini CopperLock and the RussLock. Both excellent medium size lock back, true pocket knives.

Dont let the "mini" confuse you guys. Case uses what I consider poor terminology to name thier frame sizes. "Mini" is interchangeable with "Medium" in reality.

Just my 2 cents worth. I would purchase one or more knifes to acknowledge the 16ga society. But, with the following stopping me from purchasing. I want a knife to carry year round. That means at least 2 blades, 3 is better and no gut hook. I don't want a knife with lettering on the blades, it just wears off soon as you use it. Then it's just a knife. The 16ga part has to be engraved in the handles or stamped into the blades to be permanent. I realize this is picky but that what it takes to get my money. I have a drawer with knives that have writing on the blades. I don't want any more. I notice the website of Great Eastern Cutlery shows runs of 40 or 50 knives that they did on order. They might work if Case can't.

I’d be in for 2, if it wasn’t the original pattern. Preference to a Trapper or stockman pattern. Natural scale materials of horn, bone, or wood. I daily carry a case trapper, only because I lost my elk scaled GEC trapper Sad

For Chicago, a few ideas from the Case site. He couldn’t find the gut hook knife at the Case site

Now has ANYONE sought out s_long to see if there is ANY path forward??

Thanks guys, and I too like the Mini Trapper (first of above pics, sporting a clip and wharncliff blade, other 3 are full size trappers) and I also like the Medium Stockman, as it carries 3 blades, all 3 very useful. I also agree with the engraving on the bolsters, not on the blade.

As of 2018, the only gut hook model on the case site was in Yellow Delrin, and CV blades.

We do not have to be locked in to what's on the Case site, working thru the distributor I can pretty much get whatever we want.

I have a case bird knife and it is my favorite knife for cleaning birds from woodcock to geese.
Blade length is perfect as well as handle blade angle.

I will support this endeavor. I would like the one with a gut hook but if you go with something else, I will buy one.

If you are looking for ideas I like the natural bone with a grouse on one side and woodcock on the other, or a grouse and pheasant. I have the artwork for a grouse and woodcock if you need it. They show an example of a rooster sitting on a fence in one their online examples. Then there should be room to put 16ga Society next to the bird images.

If we get this worked out I would take 3 knives.

I like that idea alot. I believe they have one very similar with a shotgun shell badge on the handle. I too like the natural bone. My wife got me a natural bone case knife for Christmas. It looks outstanding, and very vintage.

Please refer to pic#3 above for an example of a Natural Bone, full size Trapper. You can see the badge is a shotgun shell, and the carving of the bear could easily be replaced with grouse, woodcock, quail or pheasant. The detail of the carving is excellent. As I stated above, I got one as a Christmas gift and couldnt believe the clarity and detail. The bone hue is brighter than pictured, and posses more depth than can be photographed.
