Aurelio,

5's are a might big for Grouse & Woodcock, try some 7 1/2's or even 6's, save the 5's for Pheasant hunting.

Good luck,

Ok ,I thought I was ok but I am still shooting to the left not only with the sauer but also my browning and savage over and under's and seems like I never had this problem when I was a lot younger. My point of impact is constant so what are my options. Thanks Aurelio

Go on a diet Smile

Do any of your guns have recoil pads?
If so remove the 1 inch pad and make up or buy a 1/2 inch
test pad.

It will move your head a bit farther on the stock and should affect
the point of aim

Let us know how it works for you

Mike

The browning and savage are stock and the sauer has a bear tooth slip over pad.If I could loose a 1/4 pound on my right cheek that might work.So to get it to print right should I be farther back or more front on the stock?........Thanks

Aurello,

If you do as skeet advised, replacing the spacer with one thinner, you will move your sight plane closer to the barrels, changing everything if you mount your gun correctly.

Dave I took the pad off and my nose was barely touching my thumb and ended up still shooting left.Went on line and saw stuff about cast on and off and hot oil for bending stocks but I won't go there.i will go to my neighbors up the road and have him throw some clay birds for me and I will try to compensate and see how I do.If I don't do well I will sell some guns and look into getting a new sxs custom fitted.

Aurello,

Instead of doing that right away, get some #8's SpredR's and give them a try. Then go see what you can hit with them. Do not compensate, mount the gun properly, watch the bird and squeeze the trigger as you follow thru.

I am beginning to believe your gun is not shooting true and the problem may not be you as a shooter. Take your J.P. Sauer double gun, put #8 in it and mount your gun and shoot the target, do not aim the gun, simply mount the gun and shoot the target. J.P Sauer guns shoot true, they are Best made German Guns. If you still have the left shooting problem we then know it's you not the gun.

Hello Aurelio :

I have been purchasing SXS' s by the cordwood , going through the ones that shoot where I look ( shooting flying targets ) and discarding those that do not shoot where I look.

That said I have built many a barrel and I do not fool with a set of barrels that need attention ( unless it is a really special piece ) I care not about the aesthetics of a gun so much as it shoots where I am looking.

A piece of water pipe taped to a 2x4 is beautiful if it shoots where I am looking ( flying targets of course , paper tells me Little unless I want the gun for 2 dimensional shooting ) .

I picked up a very pretty Spanish SXS , looked down the right barrel , right pretty , look down the left barrel , hmmmm rings indicate a ten o'clock point of impact , go shoot said gun sure enough left barrel hit's at ten o'clock , gun does me no good , the hunt continues.

Regards, Nick

This sounds very much like a flinching situation.

WyoChukar,

It very well maybe, I went back and read the entire thread, if he is already using the old J.P Sauer Hammer gun, there is a 95% chance it's not the gun that is his problem.

I also doubt the trigger pull is very hard on that old Hammer gun. He is either flinching as he pulls the trigger, or he may have become left eye dominant over the years.

Pattern the gun at 25 and 30 yards and see what happens. He may want to cover his left lense of his shooting glasses to test for the left eye dominance also.

Nick , I saw that utube about the guy making the shotgun from the water pipe and 2X4 .. He didn't seem to care much about where it shot - don't think he proofed it either !!

I had a friend look down the barrel and the problem was my eye was not over the center of the rib and after we found the right spot I went back to the pattern board and was dead on with a spreader at 25 and a non spreader 7/8 ounce load #5's at 35yards.Thanks Aurelio

Aurello,

Proper gun mount is critical to good shooting, you may want to pick up one of the new laser tracking shells and practice your proper gun mount repeatedly, to assure good gunning.
