Well a Merkel followed me home today. Alas, just an ordinary 12 ga, but too good of a deal to pass up.
anyway, the choke marking are 1/4 and 3/4, shop checked them (with what I do not know) and said it was choked modified and Improved Modified.
to me 1/4 and 3/4 would indicate Imp Cyl and Modified. But I do know that Merkels have a reputation of being tightly choked, it is a 1990 mfd gun. (without a mark or any indication of ever being fired, heck, I think I am first person to take the forend off! store personnel did not know how to do it, and it was stiff)
ANy help on the choke markings? I realize the marking are all moot point, only patterning will tell the truth, but curious. |

Hooch,
For all my Classic American and German double guns I use the Brass CSMC slide in choke measuring tool, gives a pretty darn good idea of the actual chokes. My German Best guns all shoot a little tighter patterns for sure. SpredR shells work great in them.
Merkel made the chokes to what ever the client ordered.
Congrats on a fine new gun!
