I picked up on my local newsstand a copy of Hodgdon's Annual Manual. There is an article by Ross Seyfried which has black and smokeless powder loads for 10, 12 and 16 gauge shot shells. Velocities and pressures are listed.

I would like to note that the article lists some 16 ga. loads as using w 572 powder. According to Hodgdons W 572 has a burn rate similar to old IMR SR4756 which is no longer being produced!

572 is also out of production--along with 540 and 571

A quick check of Brownells , BPI and Graf sites shows that W572 is still being offered for sale!

Select 16ga 2 3/4” shell, either Remington SP or federal plastic hull, and W572. They list 79 1oz loads, plus 1 1/8 loads. Surprisingly, they list quite a few loads for Winchester polyformed hulls as well.

Back in the day when 16's supplies were pretty plentyful my prefered powder was Herco. Back in late 60's & early 70's .Forgot what the recipe was. Don't have the Manuel anymore.
2 years ago I ran on to a container of 572. Used it up but only cause i bought it to help a fellow out. Didn't care for the stuff. Could be just my change of thinkinf over the years.

What the Ross Seyfried article lists that the on line Hodgdon's site does not are 20 pressure tested loads utilizing Fiocchi plastic and Cheddite plastic and paper hulls.

Can't find one in town here. Will have to order.
I could use the Fiocchi/Cheddite paper load info!

Curious if anyone has used the 1oz low pressure cheddite with w572 powder loads listed in the Ross Seyfried article. I'm not familiar with the w572 powder and can't seem to find its burn rate rating. Nice Hodgson tested data set including cheddite plastic and paper hulls with both plastic and fiber wad options. Loads look appealing on paper.

Keep in mind that HS-6 and HS-7 are the same for reloading purposes as the old W540 and W571 data. I've been using W540 and now HS-6 for my pheasant loads for about 50 years now.

The 2019 article referenced in this thread, Blackpowder Shotshell Loading, had this to say...

The old SR 7625 powder was the standby powder for low-pressure loads for decades. Along with SR 4756, it did everything we asked, except perhaps burn cleanly. Suddenly, they were both gone from the shelves, discontinued for a variety of reasons. Their ability to drive a normal shot weight, at standard velocity, at relatively very low pressure, became very difficult to duplicate. I asked Hodgdon if they could recreate the performance of old. The criteria were simple: 1,200 fps velocity with pressure under 7,000 psi. The psi pressure level is mild enough to not overly stress the actions on fine old doubles.

The tested Cheddite hull 1oz 16ga loads from Hodgdon show w572 and Longshot powers. Not surprising to see the LS powder but w572 was unfamiliar at least to me.

A 2017 article from Handloader Magazine on w572 had this to say....

Chris Hodgdon said Winchester 572’s niche is for subgauge shotshells. Winchester 572 is similar to W-571, which Winchester discontinued before Hodgdon took over distribution of the powders in 2006. Not long after Winchester discontinued 571, Hodgdon stopped selling its equivalent, HS-7. “Five-seven-one was made with old technology and the market for it was slow,” Hodgdon said. “W-572 is more efficient, so you use less of it than the old 571. Plus, it is cleaner burning.”
