I was certainly impressed with them.
The fact my gun was originally chambered for 2.5” shells has me wondering if I even want to shoot 2 3/4”. I shot some and they do not chamber as easily as the 2.5”.
I am confident the gun can handle the longer and hotter shells but at this point I am not seeing much sense in shooting them.

If you are happy with 2.5" RST's and they do everything you need, I would stick with them. An ounce of truly hard high antimony lead shot sent downrange at the speeds RST advertises, will do most of what a 16 ga. is capable of doing and far more than many common loadings.

Good deal. I thought you'd like that shotgun. It has everything you wanted in a field gun. It's a good one.

I've never used RST's and roll crimp Cheddite paper hulls for all my hunting shells using Longshot powder.

Fwliw, WE can overcome any reasonable shotshell particulars.
So, I'm not sure why those reasonable shotshells are so highly valued re success when birdhunting.

Chicago is correct, in my case I sold my Mac shell builder a little while back and use the RST and Poly SpredR;s in my pre 13 L.C. Smith double guns and my J.P.Sauer best guns, most all the time now. I do still use the Fiocchi and B&P 2 3/4 shells in the guns that have the 2 3/4 chambers however.

They SpredR shells are expensive compared to regular conventional shells, maybe some day the price will even out a bit, I kind doubt it however. Both these manufacturers SpredR shells are fantastic stuff, if the manufacturers would make more standard shells in 2 1/2 I would use them also. Love to see B&P and Fiocchi make more 2 1/2" shells, that were could purchase at a more reasonable price.

Now if you do a lot of Line shooting definitely roll your own.

Another vote for RSTs. I use them in my Sterly and both my Elsies. Love ‘em!

Got to admit I use more RST and Poly SpredR shells for Grouse & Woodcock hunting than I do almost anything else now. In my L.C. Smith and J.P. Sauer Best guns they are very hard to beat. Especially sense they came out with the 2 1/2" shells, for my pre 13 guns.

Can't wait to try them in the Antique 16 Gauge Crescent Hammer Gun I just acquired. Grouse hunting wlll be fantastic with the gun and the RST or Poly SpredR shells.

Hi Pine Creek,

Both my Elsies are original 2 3/4" chambers and the Premium grade RSTs are great in them. Two of the best (luckiest?) shots I ever made on Grouse came from my 20 GA Elsie and an RST shell. My Sterly is fed a steady dies go Best grade 2 1/2" shells.
