Are the BPI multi hulls with the MH209 primer any good?
I'm looking at getting either those or Fiochis' or cheddites.

They say the multihull primers are interchangeable with several well known primers and you can use the load data for all. That would be cool.

When i was newer, I made the mistake of jumping the gun and I ordered a surplus of FED209A primers only to find out there isnt a wealth of data available with them. I have federal game load hulls, fed209A primers, u-clays powder and sg16 wads. I havent been able to find the wealth of data with these components as I have with multihulls/fiochi and cheddite with just about any other primer except fed209A ...whats with that anyway????
Seems stupid....do folks have a problem with fed209A's or something?

I could be wrong, but I believe the Federal 209A primer is the hottest primer on the market. Why it's not widely used, I couldn't say. I know I don't use them in any loads.

Dave - I think he's asking about the MH209 primers and recapping a mistake with the others Wink

Never tried the federals. Force of habit I guess--just always buy WW209's.

No, not really-I'm asking both questions -why there isnt much load data with the fed209A and if the BPI multihulls with MH209 primer are a good set up.

Jig,
The BPI hull is in essence made by cheddite. Just ask BP they'll tell you.
As for the federal 209, look at all the loading data in respect to hull, powder and primer being the same and look at your pressure changes when primers are changed. Federal is by far the hottest and Win. or Rem. dual it out for the lowest pressures. Ask Russ, he's the load expert. This information has beeen found in the hodgdon manual and the alliant data both.
Good Luck

The Winchester is slightly hotter than the Remy.I use the Fed209A for my .410 and 28 ga loads exclusively.

I just went ahead and ordered some 16 & 12 GA primed Cheddites with the low brass on Graf's as they are the importers. Also ordered some SR4756 since there is a published load in the 16GA manual for a 1oz load at 8100psi and 1300 fps velocity with the sg16 wad. That sounded good to me.

By the way...I just pray that there is a cheddite hull load incorporating a fed209A primer sg16 or sp16 wad and either universal clays or SR4756. So far I have found two loads with cheddite hull, u-clays, fed209A primer and z16 wad for 1oz/9100/1280 and 11200/1335 the latter I will prolly stay away from. For later eason roosters there is also a 1 1/8 oz with the ched-209 primer/Z16/4756/8000/1225.

Guess I might have to develop my own 1 1/8oz load to use up all those fed209A's
