Nice work, Mark. And congratulations on the show!
If you get a chance you should check out the space at Salmagundi, which is stunning. Between Washington Square and Union Square on 5th. I seem to remember going there 20 or 25 years ago for a flyfishing-related meeting, maybe Theodore Gordon Flyfishers.

Well done!

Thanks Dave! Good to know about Salmagundi. I hope I get to experience it Smile

Thank you all for the very kind words and well wishes. You guys are awesome.

Maximumstroke, my best advice on getting started is to just grab a variety of brushes and paints and stains and gun finishes and dive in. I would suggest starting on some scrap wood first, trying to mimic existing grain patterns on guns you like. There's so much to be learned in making mistakes, and in the process, you might learn something different than I did. My first few tries were not good. It took about five years of constant experimenting and fine tuning on a couple hundred different stocks before I found the combinations of materials and methods that work best for me. It's not a fast learning curve, but it is a very rewarding one.

UncleDanFan, can you provide a link or post a pic here where we can see your entry artwork for the competition? I tried the link you provided to the site but couldn’t figure out how to see the entries. Wait, is it your “seven halos” piece?

Yes, it is Seven Halos, thanks for asking.

UncleDanFan, I bet you could have done some incredible illustrations for Edgar Rice Burroughs.
