I am trying to find a Butt Plate for a JP Sauer 16 GA. SxS. The gun was made in the 60's from what I can tell. I believe it has 3" Screws Center to Center. It now has a Kick Eez recoil pad on it, and I want to replace it with the original plate. Can anyone point me in the right direction of finding one which can be purchased. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
JOHN |

Scooter,
J.P. Sauer and L.C. Smith were alike in many ways, and their Butt Plates were different depending on the era the guns were made in. On my 1880's J.P. Sauer best Grouse Gun there is a Decelerator leather recoil pad, instead of a Butt Plate, got to admit it fits the gun perfectly and works well. My pre war gun is chambered for 2 1/2" shells and I believe the nice recoil pad is really not necessary, especially for hunting Grouse and Woodcock.
You need to find out exactly when your gun was made, then match the original era's Butt Plate to your gun. If my old gun's recoil pad had not been done so perfectly I would have had the original Sauer Butt Plate installed on the gun. I prefer the Sauer Butt Plate for Grouse and Woodcock hunting, over the recoil pad.

Thanks for all the help, i purchased one and hope it fits. Any idea when the gun was made, serial number is 720xx. I'm thinking the 60's or 70's? |

Does it not have a mm/yy proof date stamped on the barrel flats? |

No sir, not that I can see. About all is the 16/70 and the number 10. There is the letter "N" just below the proof mark, but I will check later tonight for more markings.
Thanks for the help. |

Will replacing a recoil pad with a butt plate severely affect the length of pull?
Was the stock cut before the recoil pad was installed? |

Got it all put back together, worked out well, thanks for all the help. Did find the date of the gun, was 10/ 54. It was stamped, but very lightly. |
