Hevi-Shot is doing away with its Classic Doubles line of shells and will replace those with HeviBismuth, which it says is safe in both modern and vintage guns. There will be a line for waterfowl and another for upland birds.
Interestingly, no 16 gauge offerings announced yet for the upland loads, but the waterfowl loads (which no doubt will work just fine in the uplands for bigger birds), will have a few 16 gauge shells in #2, #4, and #6 shot.

Those are some awesome notox loads for 16ga and, dare I say, so are the 20 ga loads, thanks.

I'm excited to try the Bismuth #4 loads. I thought Kent missed a huge opportunity by only loading 5's and 6's in 16ga.
If they really are 1 1/8 oz bis at 1350 fps, they should be potent on both ends. On the screen it looks like it should be a good notox load for late season pheasants too. |

Been loading 1oz and 1 1/8(buffered) #4's for a couple of years and can honestly say that it's probably the single best choice for notox in 16 gauge. If it weren't for geese I wouldn't bother with the 1 1/8 load. I do hope they are using American sized shot. Kent is euro. sized. |

I might have missed it, but what kind of price tag per box?
Nice to have more options in loaded shells for sure... |

No pricing information yet that I can find.
Question for the group: Do you think at 1350 FPS, those loads and pressures would be safe to shoot occasionally in a vintage gun? Thinking specifically of an old LC Smith and Fox? |

I've looked at all the on line retailers in the Hevi Shot list.
Can't find one with 16 in stock.... Not surprising, it's a new load, and in 16, many won't stick their neck out with stock.
Hopefully it'll show when fall comes around. Can't be soon enough for me. Pushing 90* plus now.
Can hardly wait for August!

The new Bismuth loads won't hit retailers until late summer, early fall. I spoke with one independent retail outlet here in California, which told me it placed a very, very large order for the new Hevi-Bismuth loads. |

The 16 ga #4 9/8 oz load looks like the best commercial duck load out there to me. They made very good choices on their numbers. Im not an EMI fan, but these.do look good. |

With bismuth being midway between steel and lead in density, those loads should cover most upland targets bigger than doves and quail. In lead speak, think of them as 3's, 5's, and 7's. Will they offer a #7 or #7 1/2 option? Considering the volume of shell burned up by dove hunters I doubt many would pony up for high dollar ammo. Will quail shooters? Perhaps, but that's a small enough market share to make it questionable. Time will tell. |

The biggest shortcoming in 16 gauge ammo is the utter lack of nontoxic target loads and nontoxic field loads -- steel, bismuth, whatever -- for small game and birds such as doves and quail. Just absolutely nothing on the market. By contrast, a lot of nontoxic offerings for the.410 and 28 gauge, which I find interesting. |

The 4's should be a nice load for early season duck hunting. I'm getting my Rem. 11 back just in time. |
