I was in the Cabela's in Hartford CT on Friday and I'm happy to report that reasonably priced Herter's shotgun ammunition has re-appeared on their shelves.

The bad news is all I saw was 12 and 20 GA, I don't think there was a box of 16 GA ammo (made by anyone) in the store.

I checked the Cabelas site this morning and found only 12&20ga listed in the herter's shells.

I would not take that as good news.

Word is that they are now made by Federal and that a full line up is expected to be in stock in the next month or so.

RE: "Word is that they are now made by Federal and that a full line up is expected to be in stock in the next month or so."

...

Brought to mind lower priced target loads made by Federal oh-about 10 years back, they came loose in a box of 135. What I remember is someone shooting a round of skeet at dusk and that no two muzzle flashes were the same - but they broke 'clays'. Not a criticism. just a comment.

Ah-memories -

If the new Herters' by Federal are like the Top Gun loads that they produce I will be interested in how they do, I have had good luck with the Top Gun loads in my 28ga and they reload fine. Just interested in how many reloads I can get out of them.

Good news indeed. It'll be interesting to see which hulls they use; plastic based Ched's or paper based Fed's.
