Just have to join in Laughing

Bought a Trulock IM for a 12 GA Rem 11-87 and my son used it to great effect on the trap range. It really made a difference over the Remchoke Mod and Full tubes

Then I lost it somewhere out in the fields of Montana. Guess that's how things go sometimes.

Cheers

B.

I had some time to pattern Muller chokes in my Citori.

I only patterned at yardages that I want for hunting, so 20 yard U3 patterns and 30 yard U1 patterns are missing. I did a more complete test with 1 oz. loads of magnum #8's and I will post them later, when I feel like being bored out of my mind.

The load I used for these patterns has been my favorite pheasant/grouse load for nearly 20 years now:

Federal 2 3/4" 16 Gauge hull w/paper basewad
CCI 209 Primer
23.0 Grains 800-X
SP16 Remington wad
1 1/8oz. #6 Lawrence magnum
1,277 FPS 9,800 PSI

A counted, 249 pellets in the load.

This is the first time I have ever been able to get solid 30 & 40 yard patterns from this Citori......and each choke actually throws a different and correct pattern. Neither the original Invector chokes nor two other brands did that.

20" Core + 30" Annular rings with total pellet count and total pattern percentage are written on each pattern.

U1 @ 20 yards

U2 @ 20 yards The core count is 204 not 104

U2 @ 30 yards - 73%

U3 @ 30 yards

U2 @ 40 yards

U3 @ 40 yards......and Yes that is a 70% pattern @ 40 yards from a 0.023" choke

So my choices are U1 & U2 for the pen raised birds here in Connecticut. U2 & U3 for the real birds in Nebraska.

I would like this to not go down the Muller vs another brand of choke argument.

I don't believe you could get a more even distributed pattern than that wow! Thank you for sharing your load recipe and research!

Nice work Mark !

I like my Mullers in my Japan made A5 barrel. I have used the Mullers with Niceshot and Tungsten Matrix and they performed well .

Mark, those are good patterns. Do you know the constrictions on the U1 & U2?

Dave,

The bore size is 0.666" in both barrels.

U1 is -0.004" size 0.662"

U2 is -0.012" size 0.654"

U3 is -0.023" size 0.643"

To say the least I am very pleased with the results. The loads are not something I massaged just for this shotgun. They are loads leftover from the 2018 hunting season.

A few weeks back I was shooting Sporting and last week shot some FITASC at the club and was pounding the targets, now I know why. U2, U3 I wish I had another U3.

Mark, that's a really nice 3-choke spread for everything east and west.

Dave,

Yeah, Muller did a pretty good job for sure on these Invectors.

Mark you might call muller this week and talk to Devon, I talked to him last week and they found a couple U3 chokes at a club that sold there chokes. I actually bought 1 more set for my grade 6 last week. But he did confirm they won't be making any more 16 gauge chokes.

So I lied....I didn't pattern all the combinations of choke out to 40 yards......I did that with some 12 gauge stuff I was doing. But I do have 6 patterns with 1 oz. of #8's.

The load:

Remington 2 3/4" 16 ga. SP (RGL) hull
Winchester 209 primer
19.0 Grains Unique
CB0100-16 wad
1 oz. #8 magnum lead
1220 FPS 10,100 PSI

410 pellets

All pellets in the 20" core pattern

All pellets in the 15" core pattern

These patterns using 8's parallel the patterns using 6's very well.

As a reminder of the constrictions of the Muller chokes I have:

The bore size is 0.666" in both barrels of my Citori.

U1 is -0.004" size 0.662"

U2 is -0.012" size 0.654"

U3 is -0.023" size 0.643"
