Yeah, everything I'm seeing is $5k plus for sure. |

The OP didn’t say how much shooting he was going to do. I used to be a fan of old guns, not so much anymore-once bitten, twice shy. The screws in the top of the receiver, for the intercepting sears, and the fact the gun is sleeved Damascus to steel tell us that is a very old gun. Likely pre 1900. Good boxlocks from that era were often fitted for intercepting lock work, but, the sear angle in a boxlock makes the gun far less likely to jar off than a sidelock, and builders eventually quit using them in boxlocks. I’d bet money that Toby removed those sears, if they were still there.
I wouldn’t be in a hurry to bend a piece of wood that old, either. Been there, wrecked that. Light loads would be an asset to keeping it healthy, but, might not be what you need to use or can get, easily.
For occasional, light use, that is a fine gun. As your main bang stick for everything, maybe not. You will have to evaluate what you are looking to do with the gun.
Good luck in your quest. I’m left handed also, I have one double that was stocked left, and otherwise muddle through with guns that are straight (no cast) or lightly cast right. My 16 double is a Nitro Special. Just a solid shooter that is reliable.
Best,
Ted |

Thanks Chicago. I may look for a new 16ga vs. an older model. I do find the Italian single trigger guns to be more of what I'm looking for. With that said, I haven't shouldered an AYA but would like to.

Hi Ted,
Thanks for the feedback. I may go the "new" route in a side-by-side. I have a Fausti DEA SLX in 20 currently and she's a shooter for sure. I may also look at the Perazzi guns as well as the AYAs too.

Just understand what exactly you will be using the gun for. A model T is pretty cool to buzz around in on a sunny weekend, it would get old as a daily driver. There is a cost to be paid for low pressure short 16 gauge ammunition, and few retail operations bother with specifics for 16 gauge.
Wal Mart had the remains of a flat of Federal high brass lead pheasant loads, 1 1/8th loads at 1250fps, they were on sale at $4.50 a box. I got four of them, a buddy with an A5 and my Nitro Special will eat them after the snow flies. Those guns eat anything.
Good luck.
Best,
Ted |
