I have a 16ga Winchester 1897 that was made in 1905. It is a takedown model and not a riot gun. From what I've read the normal barrel length for a 16ga gun of this vintage was 28 or 30", only riot guns came with a 20" barrel.
Does anyone know "for sure" if Winchester ever made a 16ga, non-riot gun in 1905 with a 20" barrel, or were they all made with the longer barrels. It's possible that what I have was cut down professionally.
