A friend with an older side by side who is a reloader himself asked a question I was not sure how to answer.
Can he exchange blackpowder in the proper grain weight with his normal smokeless load to make low pressure loads. This would be same shotcharge, plastic wad . primer and plastis shotshell.
Thanks John |

If your asking if he can for example, replace 20 grains (by weight)of smokeless powder with 20 grains (by weight) with black powder. Yes.
But the load will probably only be about 400 FPS. That's my problem. I'm trying to load 75 grains (by volume) of Pyrodex in a plastic hull, with a plastic wad. It won't work, there isn't enough room. I can do it with 12 gauge. I think my only option in 16 gauge is to go with an overpowder wad, shot, and an overshot card. I should still be able to use the 6 point crimp. But I was hoping to use a plastic wad cup. I'm still experimenting. |
