The guy who sold it sent me a PM about 5 years ago, asking for help. He had no idea what he had. Has picked it up in a trade for an old tiller. He just knew it was “fancy”.
He had a young family and bills to pay. I’m glad he got a good return.
Interesting in that there were two 1894 EE for sale in that auction. The other was a 12 gauge that went for around $14K IIRC. |

The 12-gauge had already been restored. Unfortunately, many of the details not quite as correct as one might wish. |

I noted some of those "problems". My thought was that just shy of $17K including the auction fees was pretty good considering it wasn't right.
What irks me is why do anything to significant guns like those if you aren't going to do it right. |

7.2 lb 16. They sure made a lot of those early American 16's on the heavy side. Nice gun though regardless. |

I have three old Remington 16 doubles and they range in weight from 6.6 to 6.9 pounds. Still not light as 16s go, but a little less than that one. |

I have two 28-inch barrel, 16-gauge, Remington Hammerless Doubles and they both weigh in within a fraction of an ounce of seven pounds. |

Quite happy with my slightly less than 7 1/2 pound 1894 BE in 12 gauge but that weight thing in the 16's have meant I have never particularly lusted after one. The barrels on all three of my 1894's have been incredibly thick. Just built like tanks.

I called the seller of the EE 16 gauge last year, prepared to make him a good offer (I thought) but he was committed to the auction process.
I was going to do a ground up restoration, much as I am doing on my Charles Daly Lindner and then likely put the Remington up for auction. Or maybe keep it.
Glad he got a good price. |

Nice gun and a nice price for a serious project. But I'd be leery of the thin barrel walls in each set.
To go with that Remmy, a Parker Repro A1 Special with 2 sets of 20 ga and one set of 16ga barrels, the latter noted as having been "made by Merkel"(!).

I think that Parker may well have been a better buy.
Or the Hussey Imperial Ejector, with case, at under $6k. A friend hunts with one and I have to tell you it is a dream gun, as good a gun as London could make.

Why someone would want to upgrade a BHE to AHE escapes me, but he did. At least it was done nicely.

Dave, agreed on all. That Hussey looked like a hell of a buy. |

Canvasback
Your Lindner restoration is mind-boggling. Now you've got me adding one to my list.
My friend with the Hussey agreed on that maybe being the best buy, though that was a tossup with a 12 ga Leeson, left-handed and plain, that went for about 1850 with a lot of room to put it back on face and buy lots and lots of shells.
Good thing I'm too broke to be buying English shotguns right now. |

Dave I just spent a couple hours with CJO and saw the Lindner in person for the first time since before he began. Hard as it is for me to imagine this, it is substantially better in real life than it looks in the pics. I’m blown away by his work.
What Claudio is doing to my Lindner is what should happen to the Rem EE. I doubt it will however and that is kinda sad. |
