Mark has done some remarkable work for me on gun projects. Many of our correspondences have taken place right here on the PM system. |

They great guns IMO.
Well worth the money to have it converted to straight stock

Who did you have convert your Browning to a straight stock? |

I bought a new A5 Sweet 16 with a 26" barrel last Fall however, I haven't had a chance to shoot it much - circumstances just didn't permit.
In the past I owned a vintage 'Sweet 16', in its heyday it must have been the "cat's meow' but it didn't blow any warm air up my skirt.
I also own a Browning Citori 16 GA Upland which I love.
These days I really appreciate a lightweight upland gun, but I will say that shooting target loads through my new 'Sweet 16' produces a noticeable jolt.
I haven't taken that many birds with 16's, and the ones that I did were either "1 pellet kills' or birds that came down a considerable distance after being shot. Up till this point in time I considered myself unnecessarily handicapped shooting a 16 as basically I was shooting the equivalent of 20 GA loads.
As a matter of note I am a reader of online shooting editor Randy Wakeman, and he is critical of 16 GA - see his articles, "Carries like a 12, hits like a 28" and his review of the new Browning Sweet 16. Essentially he claims that the 16 hasn't seen any innovation for over 40 years - and I agree with him.
He does view the new Sweet 16 as a major innovation, and along with that praises Federal's new 16 GA Upland and Prairie Storm loads - which I have a box of each. In essence Randy feels that 'if' the 16 GA has a future it will be with this gun and these loads.
Some might view Randy's articles as caustic or even offensive however, I'm not into nostalgia, and when I am hunting I don't want to feel the least bit constrained - so I am looking forward to this season with a gun and ammo for the 21st century. |

Bill K:
I would have to disagree with you. There is a reason that the auto 5 was the best auto loader ever made, still remains true today. There is nothing sweeter then a day with my old hump back sweet 16. They just don't give up. I have handled and shot the new A5 and the first thing that comes to mind is cheap(my opinion). The question comes to mind.... why would browning adopt something from another brand(Benelli)? I'm sure John Browning has turned over in his grave. I am a Browning guy from my very first sweet 16 to more then a few auto 5's. To each his own, but sure seems like the new a5 has problems, that I would not expect from Browning. Guess Browning knew there would be issues, so they had to come up with a 100,000 round guarantee. |

Sent mine to Mark Larson to reshape the grip to POW, and I opted to get wood grain enhancement. |

Please share pics when it returns. Be nice to see the sweet 16 pow on the new model for comparison. |
