The gun belonged to my Dad. I shot it as a kid. It hasn't been fired in quite a while, just maintained. Chamber takes 2-3/4" shells

1) Would it be advisable to stay with a light load for a gun this age?

2) Is it safe to fire a 2-1/2 or 2-9/16 shell in the 2-3/4" chamber? Any issue with the pump action with the shorter shell? (Looking at RST ammo)

3) It had a custom carrying day back in the day that held the gun broken down but it disintegrated over the years. Are cases like those still sold by anyone now a days?

Thanks for any insights.

Hello olgoat

Welcome to the site on your first posting Smile

1. You can shoot any commercial loads non steel ammo but the Remington
ammo has a bit shorter hull and will eject better.

2. Short RST ammo is great and will also do well in this gun

3. Need a bit more info on the case. Hard Case, soft case ?
Etc, pictures would assist us.

Thanks very much for the quick reply. The original case was a canvas/leather case. Dad discarded it long ago. The leather was reinforcement at the ends. You broke the gun down into two pieces to put it in the case.

Thanks much for the reply. The original case was canvas with leather reinforcement. Held the gun broken down into two pieces. Loved it. Dad tossed it years ago as it was in bad shape.

That shotgunworld link picture looks very familiar. That is how I remember the case. It had two compartments like that with a handle between the two, if I recall correctly. The two compartments hung down next to each other while being carried.

Very cool pic. Thanks
