Glad the AYA is back and better, just in time for your trip. Will be interesting to see if you prefer the Iside or AYA when you get back. Hope you have a great time either way!

Thanks for the kind words.

Packing both guns and leaving for South Dakota in the morning and won't have a 12 gauge along for the first time ever. Shocked I sent my 12 gauge B686 "pheasant gun" in for some work and it won't make it back in time.

I'll do the bulk of my hunting with my battle-proven Iside. Even though I have the two 16 ga, SxS's guns matched as evenly as possible there are still differences that I haven't quite nailed down, so I'm building the relationship with the AyA slowly. It will get used a lot after South Dakota on my lower stakes day hunts. Plan on hunting Iowa as much as possible for the rest of the season.

Nice pic and it looks like the AYA worked pretty well for you. Have a great time in South Dakota. My son was out with his puppy near Ames and moved a dozen pheasant on some public land. He has been working the pup and trying to get in some bird contact.

Good Hunting,
Mike

The AyA stayed in the case for the South Dakota trip, and I hunted with my battle-proven Iside. It was an overly hot and gritty hunt with wild flushing birds and wind. The wind ramped up the 2nd two days and I replaced the right barrel's Cyl choke tube with an IC which reached out nicely a couple times. Reached way out on a rear trigger tight-mod choked shot on a bird my partner missed twice. I know everyone is sick of me raving about my Iside, but it flat out performs.

It gained a couple war wounds on the trip from my negligence, but for now brown and black Sharpies minimize the "Ugh!"

I'll start carrying the AyA now for much of the the rest of the season. Hopefully the snow will hold off and not shut things down early.

Here's an Iowa bird taken with my AyA last week. The gun has lighter barrels than my Iside and it's a bit faster swinging, so it's still a bit of a work in progress. Zeb had this bird pinned and I walked in to the point focused on a good mount and not riding the bird. I thought I made a solid hit, but Zeb raced off and disappeared down the waterway. Still thinking the bird was about where it dropped I moved ahead and in the other direction and posted-up in case it was running the other way. My tracking collar showed 127 yards when Zeb stopped, and moments later I saw him in the distance coming with the bird. At the end of the day I missed a long but makable shot. Zeb couldn't save me on that one.

Nice guns and dog.

Dogs are worth their weight in gold putting birds in the bag.

Great fun!
