Is this a good price for a case of 16ga? What’s a good deal on the Winchester Super X shells ? |

Didn't seem that terribly long ago our Mills Fleet Farm had them for an everyday price of $3.79 a box, and they'd often go on sale for $3.49. I must be getting old. |

Over the last few years I would normally have to pay $11.95 per box for single boxes of Remington Game Loads with 1 ounce of number 8 shot. Occasionally I would get these for $75.00 per flat and sometimes could find Herters or Estates for around $60.00. In todays crazy ammo market, I do not think that $100 / $10 per box is bad.

I just looked at my stash of flats of 16 ga loads out in my shop and cases of Remington Game loads, Rio's, Herters, Fiocchi, Federal and Winchester. At current ammo prices, I must be a wealthy man. I've been shooting mainly reloads so far this year on clay targets from my AT-50 wobbler and preserve quail training my 6 month old pup and working the two older dogs. As long as my shot supply and primers hold up, I should make it through this pandemic just fine. I did end up buying shot from Brownells and paying that shipping, but it is what it is. |

At $4.00 or so a box, my reloads are looking better and better.
$100.00 for a flat at today's prices isn't all that bad. |

RGL used to be 7.99 for a box of 25 before the ammo crisis. Not sure if 100 for a flat is unreasonable during these times. |

Last year sometime, Federal 1oz #6 shot could be had for around $7.50 a box in any store I could find it. I always thought it ridiculous that I have NEVER found an online source at some time that could at least match that. I much rather not buy factory ammo ever again, but I hate Cheddite/Fiocchi hulls, and Federal 16 gauge hulls have not been for sale for a long time.
During shortages like this, $100 a case isn't bad at all. |

I still have 8 unopened cases of RGL's bought from Dick's many, many yrs ago. Some cases marked $29.99, and others $39.99. Mostly 7 1/2 and 8's, with 1 cases of 6's.
Still have several cases of Cabela's Herters when you could get them on sale around $50/case. Thanks to the info obtained here over the yrs. and the gift of a 16 ga Mec Jr, I shoot mostly reloads in my vintage guns now, and really like loading 2 1/2" cheddite hulls. An unabashed hull whore, I have at least a 1000 Herters/cheddite hulls, a sack of 5-600 black RGL's, and an equal amount of RST hulls--my favorite to reload, and various other hulls Fiochi, old Win , etc. I have gifted a 100+ shells to some on this forum and others who were starting to reload, or just needed a few hulls for special loads..Never figured out the cost of my reloads, but MSM2019 mentioned $4.00/box, seems about right. I am someone who hunts alot, and shoots sporting clays some. I do frequent the SXS shoots like the Southern, Hausmann's, etc and shoot my clays at Hunting Hills outside Waynesburg , Pa. I would hate to pay $100/case for shells, and wont as long as I can reload. |

That's nearly the same price as RST's. I sure do miss Herter's just a couple years ago at $5.99/box. |

I used to pick up a case or three of RGLs at a Dick’s in NH, seems I was paying $35-40 per case, and they’d give you 10% off too. No sales tax either. I was in a Dick’s a few months ago, and although they still sell a few long guns, they no longer sell ammunition so I see no point in giving them any of my business again.
Great hulls for reloading, although I’ve been buying pre-primed ones lately.
I’ve been seeing full cases of RGL 16 ammo selling on GB for under $100, but once you put the shipping on there $100 doesn’t seem so bad. |
