Doing inventory of my reloading supplies and found I have most of a pound of Herco. Anyone have any favorite 16g loads with it? |

Yeah, was my fav powder for 16ga 9/8oz. Rem hulls. I don't know wby alliant has taken down most of their 16ga loads, now they have a single blue dot load for 16ga in rem hulls.... the old Hercules and Alliant books from 85 to 95 have good herco loads listed. Not home or I'd type one. |

My fav 16ga 1oz Herco (Trap) load bar none, published in Lymans... RGL, Rem primer (I sub w209), 20g Herco, SP16, 1oz lead, 6 fold. 1250fps 10,600psi. For grins I've loaded down to 19.5 and 19 to try slower fps for "better" patterns didn't seem to affect much. Easy to load, shoots consistent. The hull mouth gets a little crusty after a couple firings. I use the tip of a plastic funnel to reform before loading good to go.
Best of luck with it..... |

I did not since I saw no benefits to the pattern on paper or in the breaks but did notice TIF or leads changing so I stuck w/the published 20g.
FWIW; this load w/#7.5 is my winter Trap load, w/#7 nickle plated is my Upland bird-n-bunny load. I go to a 7/8 #8 GD load for warmer weather Trap. |

Ive been trying to read up on Herco online. Supposedly it makes a very good 1 oz heavy field load in the 20 ga but the fastest I see on Alliants site is 1155fps. Their site also shows 14.0 in a 28ga load can pretty much duplicate a 3/4 oz Win AA factory load, but I've never seen anyone mention Herco and 28ga in the same sentence. |

Savage16, replied at 28ga too but here, so.eone here might like this.
Look at old 1996 and after Alliant manuals. Some 1220fps herco 1oz 20ga.
Folks looking at old manuals need to know their primers and hulls!!!! Fed209 is Not the same as fed209A. WinAAHS is not what they are talking about when they say winAa, there was only CF hulls back then, etc. Dont even look at fed hulls if you dont understand current cheap fed hulls are Rio and Cheddite etc... but since Alliant keeps deleting their data, older 16 ga data is useful.
