Back when I shot an auto, I used Mobil 1 0W-30 very sparingly. Today, I would use something from Royal Purple. Their stuff is expensive but in my cold weather experience (down to minus 40 F), their oils behave like regular oils and most so-called synthetics behave in warm weather. Their base stock is PAO group IV or V (depending on which product) and is a true synthetic that is not refined from crude but a gas. Amsoil and Redline are removed to use this same type of formulation. |

Service SN, it also has the Dexos rating for GM vehicles.
Good stuff. It's been around for awhile. |

Yes Mark, that is the stuff. Set it out tonight (I know it's going to be deep subzero where you live) then take it and shake it in the morning. Most oils won't slosh when it is -30F. Royal Purple does make a spray lube as well. Expensive, but perfect gun oil for cold weather. |

Wyochukar,
You don't have to sell me on Royal Purple. I have used it in my vehicles.
Back in 2004 when I worked on a race team, our engine builder switched to Royal Purple. That was my intro to it. It was about that time that some other oils lost an additive that solid lifters need (sulphur I think). Anyway we had 0 problems with our race motors. |

The additive, which is crucial for all flat tappet cams as well, is Zinc Dithiophospate, an anti wear additive that was eliminated by the EPA because it clogged catalytic converters...if your engine was burning oil. In other words, they decided to ruin a lot of perfectly good engines on account of a few worn out ones still on the road. Typical government thinking. The additive is available separately, to be added to motor oil as needed. Castro break in oil has it too. |

That and a lot of the new designs are roller cams. GM makes the additive. Royal purple still makes the oil, even for street applications.
Anyway, I never thought of using it on my Benelli or 1100. I need to try it. |
