1987 was the first year Browning offered the Citori in 16g. Very nice guns with the long tang, full length side ribs, and extra little engraving touches on the screws and forend iron. Also will have the date code PR. Heres my mint '87 example showing off that beauty long tang...

That's a great example of an early grade 1! Thanks for sharing.

I picked up a PR gun about 8 years ago. I'm pretty sure it was unfired. No box, but @ $1,100 I felt good about it. I've put only a few rounds through it. Still super tight. Looks great. I believe they called them something different in that first year. Like "hunter" or "field" somebody please correct me. I also have a GR3 from the next year, likewise super tight.

you are correct, the box labels listed the model as 'FIELD' on first year guns

This is one of those Standard lightnings that was customized by Scheels. Note the gray/pewter color of the receiver and the schnabel forend and oil finish

We had a long discussion about this gun when I purchased it years ago. A couple of members had this model also. Have heard that as few as 200 or as many as 500 were made. Not sure I remember.

Thanks for posting those pics, I've seen Pics of those 16's before and figured it must have been some special run done by somebody...now I know the story behind them.
