I voted "venison" -- but only because my absolute favorite -- wild duck -- was not on the list. |

I really like quail the best but have enjoyed everything on the list except moose and
prairie chicken. In the high desert country of Oregon we have a bird called a Sage Hen. I don’t want to say anything bad about it but I think it has the same DNA as a
B F Goodrich tire. |

Quail, gravy, cat-head biscuits. Hands down.
Ruffed grouse are excellent also. The only blue grouse I have eaten were also excellent. |

I like game, period. I voted for moose because, well, it is my favorite. Followed closely by pheasant and ruffed grouse.
Had grouse for dinner this past Christmas. It doesn't get much better than that.
All that said, I'd love to get some cottontail (not legal game here in Maine). It's been a long time - too long. |

I chose quail, but only because I’ve never had the pleasure of eating ruffed grouse, which I understand, is spectacular. |

Ruffed grouse is pretty hard to beat, as are my other favorites, elk and walleye. I picked elk in the survey, but these three game meals are at the top for me. I'd hate to have to forsake any one for the other. Hopefully, I never will. |

After thinking about this more and reading what others like if I had to take one of the above the others it would be venison. Although a meal of ruffed grouse is cherished and looked forward to there are so many different ways I cook venison I would not want to do without. |

So far the top choice of quail really surprises me......I thought that either ruffed grouse or venison would be on top. |

Gentlemen,
If you have ever eaten a roast or the back straps of an Elk it's pretty hard to beat for incredible eating. If more people were able to hunt Elk I believe it would be #1 on the list of great wild game eating. I have to admit it gives my incredible Ruffed Grouse meals a run for its money. I am also going to give WyoChukars receipt for pan fried Grouse a try, and I am going to use it on some Mearns Quail also.
all the best,
Pine Creek/Dave

Still some of the best eating on God's earth, I do have a pan fried receipt similar to Garhart, only I use Jack Daniels Barb Sauce, Green onions and Red peppers, some yummy eating for sure. One early November evening after Grouse hunting, I cooked up 2 nice size Grouse, using the Barb receipt on the open fire in my big rock fire pit, ate both Grouse with a few Duke Bourbons, and the wifes home made corn bread, Yes I was feeling no pain, and what a meal.

Gil,
I agree Wood Duck is high up on my wild bird eating also, very similar to Grouse and some times even more tender. Simply Great eating!

Gil S,
I am with you on the woodcock.

I agree with you about the elk. I am sitting down right now, to elk tenderloin, baked potato and broccoli......and a nice bourbon, of course. |

Bob White quail. You need some sort of gravy, for it can be dry. A good, tender Canada goose, that has fed on corn- has to be in there. And a mallard or canvasback- feathers plucked, whole bird, roasted or smoked. |
