I've always found it ironic that Dupont, now IMR says that 700X powder is ideal for 12 and 16ga loads. The irony is that you rarely see a loading for 16ga using that powder. Only light 3/4oz loads appear in their or others manuals.
I like 700X because it burns clean and you don't have to use very much of it compared to other powders. I've used it for 40+ years in 12 and 20ga loads (but even the 20ga loads are rarely cited now).
Note: I deleted my question about asking for loads because there is that great matrix of loads availble for it by another member. Thanks to those that did respond to the query. |

Oops, I forgot that there is that great matrix another member assembled that shows several 700X loads. My apologies. I will now go and revise my first message to limit it to the irony that IMR doesn't publish any data that is useful for 16ga and 700X. |

As Hodgdons bought IMR, any of the newer loads using 700X are listed under Hodgdons. IMR does not publish any loads under their name any more. All listed by Hodgdons. I'd say overall there are more 700X loads listed for the 16 gauge then the 20 gauge. It is a little fast for the 20 gauge except for the Federal hull.
There are 700X loads from the old Win CF hull, Win polyformed, Cheddite, Federal, and Remington hulls all the way up to the old stacked loads. A person should be able to find one to fit ones needs. |

Funny been trying to come up with a powder for target loading in the summer for both 12 & 16 gauge. I just decided to give 700x the first college try over international, clays, WST, and American select. |

Seems to give me nice patterns. I like it for my upland loads, but only have about a 1/4 lb. left.

Hello all -
I'm new to the forum and new to reloading in general... I want to find a good 3/4 oz load.
I've got three lbs of 700x, understanding that this is a good powder for this application.
I also have longshot and win. 572.
I've got Fed209A as well as Win 209 primers
I have a decent stock of rem. (black) plastic hulls.
I have BPI SG16 wads.
So far I've been loading 19 gr of 572 and 1 oz lead, and it's fine, but I'd like to get the lighter load figured out.
Since I'm new at this game, can I talk anyone into helping? Thanks - happy new year! |

My go to target load is:
Cheddite hull (either Herters or Winchester)
Cheddite 209 primer
14 grains 700x powder
Claybuster 16 (AA clone wad)
3 pinto beans to achieve a good crimp
Laugh if you must, but it works well. This load chronographs at 1233 fps.
BTW: I am in Maryland. A couple of days ago, in a gunshop on the Eastern Shore, I saw a 12 oz bottle of 700x for $79.99. |
