I have about 100 7/8 oz 21/2 in Cheddites that I loaded with the last of the PB that I had. I hope to shoot them up this dove season. I bought some Green Dot a while back in anticipation of this situation and have been reviewing threads about using Green Dot for this application for the last several months. I have sg16 and sg16s wads, Cheddite and CCI primers. I would like to load 1150-1200 fps with this new GD and concluded that I need around 15-15.5 gr with my other components to accomplish this based on my reading. Does this sound right? I'm loading a Citori Superlight, and a 1940 Elsie that has 2 9/16 chambers (hence the shell length). I also have a 1967 Sweet that won't shoot 2 1/2 in shells that I use RGL but that is a question for another day. Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah your prolly in the ballpark for what your looking for you might need to bump up to 16gr. I use 15gr in my 3/4oz skeet loads, I would have to check my spreadsheets to see if I have a 7/8oz load.

Agree w/Stx4wheeler, that 15.5gr should work for you guessing mid to low 1100's but it's your call. If wanting to be certain send 3 or 4 in for testing, cheap insurance.

It sounds a bit 5lbs of potatoes in a 4lb bag'ish so for grins, and since I have all those components in the press and on the bench at the moment, loaded 2 9/16" = RST length Ched, 15.5g GD, SG16, 7/8 #8.5 lead, 6 fold and needed to apply #60 of wad squish to get it to fit. Might have to go to the SG16S if you don't want to seat the wad that firmly.

This one is close for reference off the spreadsheets but in a 2.75" hull and DR wad...
Cheddite 7/8 oz. Green Dot 18.0 Win 209 DR 16 1273 10,233 Bowbuilder 16 gauge forum

Again, sending out for testing (I have 8 loads out for testing at PR right now) is cheap insurance. Best of luck with it....

Thanks for the info. I never considered that the powder might be a tight fit. I loaded 18 gr PB with SG16 and 7/8 oz shot and the crimp was perfect with my 600Jr and the short kit. Well I'll have to see. Haven't even opened the powder yet.

You're welcome. Bushings or adjustable charge bar in your 600?

If bushings and the MEC chart shows similar/same bushings for 18gr PB & 15.5gr GD you should be in familiar territory regarding volumetric/stack height.

Adjustable bar. I won't change it till I see what it drops. I bought this setup from a guy in the mid '90's that was what was on it.
