It seems the woodcock flight, even the early females have not moved down into Pa yet. The few woodcock you are seeing are homie birds more than likely. Be patient maybe the flight will be in this next week. Returning to the log cabin tomorrow, we will see how things go, we are suppose to get some cooler weather and rain on Friday. Maybe the woodcock flight will move down into Pa with this weather front.

Yes, I suspect the one I moved was a resident woodcock... it was a big old bird that blasted out of the swamp like a grouse. Did not seem like a weary traveler! My young pup did pin a hen pheasant as well. I did not realize this area was stocked, and when a pheasant got up, I was so startled that I missed it with both barrels... |
