I am the volunteer maintenance coordinator of a local indoor pistol range.
We harvest lead monthly (around four buckets of lead/brass projectiles).
I melt the lead into one pound ingots and sell the brass at the scrap dealer to pay for propane.
I give my friend 50 ingots and a shot bag. In return, I get one 25 bag of shot. He gets 25 pound of lead. Good for me, good for him.
So I get from 3 to 6 bags of newly made, tumbled and graphited shot per month. |

skeettx you have a great gig going. About the only way I would ever shoot reclaimed is if it was re dropped. Several of the clubs I shoot at have done reclamation operations and they leave a couple drums behind for the clubs to sell to members. Those with P and K guns seem to be the first in line for it. And the first to complain when they end up with scratches in their barrel.
CAC in Ebensburg, Pa. is now selling 6% Antimony Heper lead shot for $45.90 a bag. I bought 8 bags to try out and it is the real deal. Shipping by the bag is a killer but if you buy a ton or more they will ship truck freight. The more tons you buy the cheaper it is. And if you can have it delivered to a commercial address with a loading dock it will come in at less than $50 a bag.
Friend and I are going to split a ton, yes I shoot a lot. VP at one of the clubs I shoot at owns a machine shop and waiting to hear back from him as to how much the club wants as well. And then place an order.

You might not be too happy out here. The biggest shot maker up here doesn’t even drop his new shot. It’s dripped into water then rolled. We mike it and everyone here is very satisfied with it…if and when we get any. Most of it now goes down to California. Times are tough!
Word here is the best new shot now comes from Peru. Virgin high antimony dropped shot. Our guys are working with the other regional clubs to book a shipload.
