I ve been reloading this load for a while Cheddite hull, Fiocchi primer, 20.9 grains universal,SG 16 wad,7/8 once of shot. People always comment how loud these shells are.Does anyone else load this combo and get told how loud they are? They also feel like they kick pretty good in my 6.5 # Fox.

I’ve loaded it but with ched primers. Never seemed loud to me.

I like 17.4 gr of universal to get 1150 fps with 1 oz of shot, I loaded some up with about your load and they ran 1300 fps and were loud. I do not believe hodgdons published loads are correct.

That looks like their 2.5” load but not with the correct primer. I shoot thousands of those with nsi209 and ched209 primers in very old guns. Might be your primer causing problems.

Shotguns are loud by nature. Perhaps a better pair of ear plugs are in order?

In all seriousness, I load this for clay targets and no one has ever said it was loud.....and my 1100 is ported. The load has been around for about 24 years now, it is a load I developed and tested when I worked for Precision. You can sub in the Gualandi wad with no big change.

Looking at Hodgdon's data, I would say that their loads are a bit on the hot side.

Federal 16 ga. hull
Federal 209A
20.5 grains Universal
Z2M16 B & P wad
1 oz. lead shot

1,265 FPS 10,400 PSI

I loaded some shells with 19.3 grains of universal with cheditte hull and Fiocchi primer 7/8 oz of shot SG 16 wad. They seemed to be quieter and the kick seemed less.Not sure about pressure or FPS but broke clays fine.
