It's been a few years since I last checked in, and I have forgotten some of your nicknames, but wanted to say hello and let you know that I am still on the north side of the grass. I have added one new 16 since my last visit (another very nice Field Grade Elsie). I also finally shot my Damascus Elsie, and it performed flawlessly. RST light loads without a hiccup.

Are any of you guys still getting together at the sporting clay range in west Dallas? I remember several gatherings with some fine fellows (and guns). Forgive me for not remembering all you guys (hhhipshot, Post Oak, Wingshooter, 16'er, are all I can recall at my age).

My wife and I plan on moving to the east side of the Cascades in a year or two. I think we have finally had enough of the Portland-esque politics of Northwest Oregon. Our home in Salem will be missed, but it's time to move on to the next phase in our lives. Our daughter and son-in-law are building a new place in a rural setting near Redmond and have asked us to spend our senior years under their roof. We are anxious and flattered. AND, I can do all the shooting I want right there on the property.

I'd love to hear from any of you who might remember me, but I understand completely if that in order to remember, you might also have to forget something else (not enough storage in these old noggins).

Cheers,
Marc - txshootist

txshootist,
Welcome back, unfortunately I never got to shoot with you when visiting Don Moody on his Quail Lease in Texas. I doubt I will ever get back to Texas now that Don has moved up stairs. If you ever get out Pa way let me know, and we will take you out Grouse hunting, very few wild Quail left here in Pa. Enjoy your 16 gauge L.C. Smith double gun, they make great Grouse guns, especially with the RST shells.

all the best,

Pine Creek/Dave
L.C. Smith Man

My buddy Don Moody gunning Doves on his Texas lease, long before he got sick.

Thanks to the both of you for your responses. Skeetx, I remember you from years ago, although I don't think we ever met in person. Correct me if I am mistaken. At 74 my memory is pretty shaky. It would be great to return to Texas and attempt to bust a few clays or just shoot the bull and compare 16ga classic guns. In the meantime I will have to be content with rubbing elbows with some west coast cowboys of central Oregon.

Cheers,
Marc

Skeettx,

That is a nice model 12, especially with that WS-1 choked bbl. I once had the same bbl on my 12 ga model 50 Winchester autoloader. I think my brother ended up with that gun. I love those old guns.

I see that you are a retired LC. Thank you for your service. I also retired from the Navy as an O-5. Flew H-3 helos off the USS Forrestal for my first tour. Exciting life, but it is very apparent to me why they recruit the young bucks to do all that scary flying off the boat at night. We were bulletproof back then. I like reminiscing, but don't miss the long deployments aboard the carrier.

Go Navy! Beat Army,
Marc

I was a lot taller and better looking in those days Smile

I really enjoy the Model 12 and 42s, what fun

We have trap shooting every Wednesday starting either in April or May in Burns Oregon at 5pm if you can get over from Salem or Redmond. You are welcome to come! There are two ex navy guys here - Cliff who was I believe on the the Forrester probably the same time as you. John also served about the same time. It's a good crowd.

Goathoof,

I appreciate that info. A new life awaits when we get to Powell Butte (Redmond). Trout fishing, gun clubs, can't wait. I'd love to make a trip to Burns and see your operation.

Cheers,
Marc

Good to hear from you !

Wingshooter and 16er have both passed on and I have lost touch with hipshot.

I host a informal shoot at my place out west from time to time, this year it will be in April.

Post Oak,

Great to hear from you. Sorry to hear about Wingshooter and 16'er. It is surprising how quickly the years go by. I'll be 74 in April. Glad to hear you are still active in the sport. It is embarrassing to admit how little shooting I have done in the last 15 years. I expect to get more active when we move over to the east side of the Cascades. It's more shooter friendly over there.

I'll try to stay in touch a little more often.

Cheers,
Marc
