skeettx,
You have more snow in Texas than we do in ND......we can see bare ground in these parts!! |

10” here in CT, got my workout shoveling the driveway and deck, twice. In days past I would be out joy riding and blowing donuts in some field or parking lot.
I suppose I’ll get a little of that driving to Ledyard for night skeet, the road in is rugged even without snow. Some sacrifices must be made. |

Finally out of International so I made up some 3/4 oz loads with 700x.
Mixed Fed & Herters purple (Cheddite)
Ch209, 16gr 700x, SG16, 1/4” cork, .125 NC, 3/4 oz 8.5 Heper.
Straight out of the drop, no measuring (practice loads).
1209 Fed
1256 Herters
1242 Herters
1246 Fed
1241 Fed
1239 av
47.57 es
17.66 sd
Might bump up to 17gr, but these look good for a 1250 load. |

Here is a load that I had checked by Precision.
Federal 16 gauge hull
Winchester 209
16.0 grains 700-X
DR16
7/8 oz. lead shot
1,260 FPS 8,163 PSI
SD - 11 FPS
ES - 30 FPS
I like the load. It's fine even in the ND winter 5 Stand League. I tried this load with Cheddite primers, a bit more velocity, but the SD and ES opened up some.
Since that 3/4 oz. load with the same 16 grains has less velocity, I agree with you it needs more powder. |

Well, I think I found my new practice load, bumped the recipe up to 17gr 700x:
Again, straight out of the drop tube, no measuring, but it was fairly consistent once I got to the mark.
1304 Fed
1310 Herters
1307 Herters
1296 Fed
1314 Herters
Av 1306
Es 18.31
Sd 6.78
Just above freezing today. My goal is always 1350, but after doing the math, I think I can live with the 3/4” or so of lead difference…. |
