Charlie16ga Redux, I too was searching strongly for rifled options for 16ga slug shooting/hunting. With no options found/available I found a couple other ways of skinning that cat. I hope you get somewhere w/Trulock in your en devour. Briley entertained the idea but in the end a "one off" custom rifled 16ga tube was not going to happen.
Thoughts for you to take into your discussion with Turlock. IF they seem interested I would like to see them produce a rifled tube for an OEM thread, say Invector and also one threaded for after market threading since not many aftermarket choke tube threading services offer OEM thread installs, especially in 16ga.
I might be out in left field on this one, but, I think Trulock doesn't support the 16ga in their Truchoke (thread pattern) tubes any longer. Colonial does in their Truesize thread pattern. FWIW; Colonial wasn't interested in making me a 16ga rifled tube. It has to do with post processing the cut tube. Stress relieving and finishing a one off was way too intensive for them to be interested, although they did look into it, kudos, but, as with Briley it wasn't going to happen.
Simply sharing my experience so you might cut to the chase a bit....best of luck!

I appreciate the heads up. I usually don’t anticipate being successful, but believe in this case the only result of doing nothing is accomplishing nothing. |

I would like to see 16 gauge classes officially added to competitive shooting sports on an international level.
It has often been said that the reason the 16 gauge became a "niche" cartridge was its lack of inclusion as a competitive class in Skeet.
If we want to see improvements in product offerings for the 16 gauge, be it ammunition, guns, or other gear, we need to drive interest in the gauge at a competitive level first. |

I totally agree. The issue is we need a competition that takes advantage of the 16 ga characteristics, or add a division to current sports. Shoot 16 in 12 ga events, and win or otherwise do well, and that might get some things going. Hunting guns and collecting make for small demand.
A walk-only sporting clays event (with exceptions for handicapped) might show off the appeal for a 16. |

This right here. Until 16 gauge is part of the official shooting sports classes, all this is wishful thinking. |

Well, I wouldn't hold my breath trying to get the ATA, NSSA, NSCA or any other shooting organization to open up a 16 gauge class. That ship sailed a loooooooooonnnnngggg time ago.
I hate to say this, but we are a bunch of dinosaurs, we might not want to admit it but...... |

I could be wrong, but it seems like the lack of market share for 16ga offerings is self perpetuating. I rarely buy off the shelf 16ga ammo because [affordable] off the shelf ammo is rarely available in any sufficient quantity or variety. You can't sell from an empty wagon, and then blame the empty wagon for lack of sales. In the past, when affordable 16ga ammo was available (i.e., $6/box Herter's at Cabela's), they sold quickly, at least at the stores I went to. But what do I know.
All that said, the lack of a 16ga category in sanctioned events is by far the biggest reason we are in a niche market. What are my wants? For that to change. Maybe our efforts would be better spent as a collective group organizing and petitioning to enact future change and inclusion in clays events. I guess I don't understand the organizational bias against 16's for that purpose. Weird.
Just my two cents. |
