There's no shortage of 16 gauge shells here at my place, so I haven't looked at ammo prices for 16 gauge in a while. I was in the local Fleet Farm store here in Wisconsin on Sunday on my way home from grouse hunting (flushed 6 birds, missed one), and thought I'd share the 16 gauge ammo prices I found there.
For those of you that (unfortunately) do not live in the upper Midwest, FF usually (but not always) has some of the lowest prices on ammo in the area. Note these are single box prices, but there isn't a discount on case quantities there so it doesn't really matter much either way.
Remington Pheasant Loads - 1295 fps 1-1/8oz #6 - $30.69
Federal Game Loads, High Brass - 1295 fps 1-1/8oz #4, #6 - $23.99
Federal Prairie Storm FS Lead - 1425 fps 1-1/8oz #6 - $37.99
Winchester Super X High Brass - 1295 fps 1-1/8oz #6 - $24.59
Hevi Bismuth - 1350 fps 1-1/8oz #4, #6 - $59.99
Federal Speed Shok steel - 1350 fps 15/16oz #2 - $39.99
These were the only varieties available. It should be noted that a box of Hevi Bismuth 20 gauge, 3" 1400 fps 1-1/8oz #4 was $49.99 - $10 less than the 16 gauge.
I'm really feeling the "back in my day" nostalgia for when I could roll into any Walmart and pick up a box of Federal game loads for $3.99... |

Just like the good old days when Dick's sporting goods was selling the Remington game loads for the dove season at $3.99/25 and if you bought a flat of 10 boxes you got the bulk discount. |

Huh ??
Reloads are free.
For years I have accumulated hulls, wads, shot, powder and primer.
Now at 76 I do not shoot as much skeet as I once did so ammo seems to hang around here.
Last I counted, I had 100 flats of ammo waiting to be shot.
Some are target loads, some game loads, some non-tox etc.
What a problem to have,
Mike |

If any gauge is a candidate to be reloaded, the 16 ga is. I bought a MEC Sizemaster years ago. Glad I did. |

The local Fleet Farms in MN have had a much smaller selection of 16 ga. At least at this time of year. |

I still have a bunch of RGL's I bought at a Dick's in NH back in the day. $3.50 per box and 10% off a case. I used to stock up on RGL's and Gun Club in 12 and 20 on my frequent trips to NH. And no sales tax! |

Skeetx,
Come on up here and join up with our Sporting Clays guys, get yourself one of those golf carts set up for SC and run through a flat or two in an afternoon. Those boys can burn through the ammo just warming up at Station1! We shoot rain or shine here (mostly rain, I won’t lie), 1.2 million targets last year, and I did my part too.
All the Best,
B. |

Fiocchi game loads can be had for under $13 a box. I’d never pay those prices for 16 gauge ammo. That’s insane ! |

word from Parsons is that shot is going back up the 10 bucks it had gone down .... I'd expect loaded shells to follow along . Like skeettx , I've accumulated loading stuff for yrs , and don't feel the pain I would if I had to buy shells . We've held the line at 9 bucks a box for the kids , and that's just 12/20 loads . Don't ask/tell what the couple of 16ga shooters spend ! |

I load my own spreaders and have a few favorite recipes for the 16. I really want to work up a load using Winchester WST for the 16, might work on that this spring and send some out for testing. |

I never see decent prices locally, but it looks like ammoseek has Fiocchi Dove and Target and Federal Heavy Field loads for under $9 per box:

cass,
When I was in high school in the late 50's we had a store in North Versailes, Pa called Clabers. They sold Remington Shot gun shells for upland use, for $2.25 a box of 25. If you purchased a case of shells, you were given a box of shells free. Now that was when shells sold for decent money.
all the best,

Not sure how close to Paducah you are, but Shooter Supply down there usually has them in addition to some reloading powders.
There is a sports store in Marion, Kentucky across from Cave-in Rock that also tends to carry 6’s. |

Just as a point of reference, 12 gauge AAs are $11 and STSs are $13 at Walmart and I built a new F350 on Firds website last month and it came out at $96,000 (I’ll keep up on the maintenance on my 2006).
Did t check prices closely, but our local Walmarts have 8 or 10 different loads of 16 from 4s to 8s and seemed like $15-$22 in price, roughly. |
