I bought a rusty one and wiped it off before sending it off to JJP Can’t wait to get it back and learn how to use it!

Guyot of Paris with Leopold Bernard laminated barrels. Crazy thing is a twin to the purdey. Some think they both sourced bar in wood action from another English maker? I was extremely lucky that rust was just superficial. |

The Purdey isn’t mine just a pic and yes they will all get used. I try to follow your lead I shoot at least once a week during all of our dove seasons( different guns but you have more than I) plus a few quail and rabbits. I just now this past year was exposed to hammer doubles and now I have three, all being restored now. Should get this Guyot back in July!
English one has replacement fluid bnp barrels by a different maker

Hammerguns are clearly additive. Proceed with caution. |

B11 , M37 has been my fave "HAMMER" gun for 65 yrs . Have a few .... My old Rem 1889 10ga used to be a fave - was quite a load to carry and cock , but it killed a bunch of stuff .... Nick has it down cocking and closing, especially with the guns he used when we went together ! Would be a little diff with the Remmy ! ( can't get wifey to carry the old gun for me now - keeps using the "I'm 80 now for cripes sakes" excuse !) |

Thanks Dave. Now I’m addicted, although I can pass on the 12s. Many nice English 12 hammer guns out there for less than 1500.00, I saw 3 Saturday at the National gun day show here in Louisville. Very tempting |

Subgauge hammers are clearly not as common and they are accordingly more-expensive. There were probably 50 12-gauge guns made for every subgauge one (& it may be more like 100 to 1).
Something else to consider...subgauge guns have higher pressures than 12s and most of them are old & Damascus tubed as well. 16s aren't so-bad, but 20s are much more high-pressure than the more-common 12s.
Also, subgauge ammo is usually more expensive than 12-bore and low-pressure 12 gauge is far-easier to source, even if you reload (the components are much easier to find).
Mind you, I love my sub-gauge guns (my 1st English Hammer was neat little a 5 1/2-pound 20-bore), but for the ways I use a hammergun (light hunting & targets), a 12 is just fine. |

Gentlemen,
One of my favorite knockabout 16 gauge Hammer Guns, a 16 gauge antique Crescent Hammer gun that has proven to be a big time Grouse & Woodcock killer. I purchased it off the Net from a gentlemen who was kind enough to let it come my way. I use light 2 1/2" RST shells in her and she just keeps on shooting birds.
all the best,
Pine Creek?Dave
L.C. Smith Man
Antique Crescent 16 gauge hammier gun, that still kills Grouse & Woodcock each season.
