Gentlemen,

I was looking for a modern Spanish SXS double gun and found a real nice Ugartechea 16 gauge Model 75 EX or in Lion Country terms a Grade IV Hand made Side Lock Ejector Gun, hand engraved with Rose & Scroll. Wanted one of these guns when they 1st hit the market, but missed out on purchasing one when Uggie closed up shop. This particular 16 gauge gun was actually made in 2007 and the sportsman who ordered the gun said he hardly ever used it except to kill 2 Pheasants, so he was letting it go.
Have to admit the gun is like brand new in the box. English straight stock with splinter fore-end and one beautiful piece of hand finished Walnut for a stock. This will be my 2nd Spanish made SXS double gun, I already own the L.C. Smith 28 gauge made for Marlin by Zabala in Spain, one seriously nice Box Lock that preforms real well in the Grouse woods. I made a real good deal on this gun and am really looking forward to Grouse season this year with my 1904 Westley Richards 12 gauge and now the Uggie 16 gauge side Lock ejector gun.

I have been real lucky acquiring bird guns this year, after starting out with a few busted deals.

Dave,the Ugartechea you purchased is a really nice gun.I had a grade IV and the workmanship was outstanding but pitch was off and I did not want to cut the stock so off it went.

The gentlemen who owned the gun had a 1" recoil pad installed on the gun, it gives the gun a 15" LOP. I will need to have it removed and the original wood checkering touched up before I can use the gun. I will look at the pitch at that time to make sure it works for me and my Grouse hunting. My WR has the exact pitch and LOP I need for Grouse hunting, I will remeasure it and transfer it on to the Grade IV side lock Uggie.
I did get one heck of a good deal on the purchase of this gun and it is in pristine condition according to the pervious owner. Like new in Box was his words to me. He only shot 2 Pheasants with the gun and put the gun in his gun safe and never used it again. It's a 2007 made gun in pristine condition! I wanted one of these guns but Lion Country wanted over $3,800 for them at that time. I just talked to Lion Country Supply yesterday they really like the grade IV guns and resell them for around $2,800 when they are traded in. I believe I made a real good purchase, the gun manager at Lion County told me I stole the gun at $1,500.

The pitch on my gun was changed by the previous owner and now works great for my Grouse gunning. The gun is now out at Doug Carpenters shop to have the original checkering put back on the Butt stock and top and bottom Silver Butt Clips added to the stock. Hoping to have the gun stock back some time in early November of this year, so I can Grouse hunt with it

Yea I really like the modern Spanish made side lock SXS double guns, and we both own Best Spanish made double guns. I shot mine at some Clays it does a real nice job, now we will see what the gun is like in the Grouse woods, when she arrives home form Doug Carpenter. I am really looking forward to this gun with 2 3/4" chambers although the gun is 1/4lb heavier than my WR 12 guage gun, most of my classic sub gauge guns have 2 1/2" Chambers and I love shooting them. My WR 12 gauge side lock even has 2 1/2" chambers. All of my L.C. Smith 12 gauge guns have 2 3/4" Chambers. Different shells for different guns!

Heavier (by at least 1/2 a pound) but modern and capable of bigger and faster loads.

Not a bad trade-off.

Yes I agree most of the modern guns are heavier, however they can shoot heavier loads which is ok to a point. I do like the fact that the modern guns are steel compatible, if I ever need to use steel in one of the liberal commie states that have outlawed good lead shells.

Gentlemen,

Just talked with Doug Carpenter, he is near finished with the Ugartechea checkering and antique Butt Silver Clip installation. It really makes the gun look great and I should have the gun in the next week or so. Lets hope USPS registered mail works perfectly again.
