Here are pictures illustrating what I have been relating to you all about 16 ga Citoris and stock fitment.

In order:

a. 20ga with a 16ga stock on it, you can see the extra wood thickness on the sides of the receiver

b. 16ga with a 20ga stock on it, no room for refinishing if it requires sanding

c. 16ga with a 16ga stock, each stock does have some dimensional differences

d and e. bearing surfaces, this is where the bottom of the receiver actually bears
and takes the recoil impulse, not on the sides, they would break

f. tool I rigged to remove stock bolts, wrap tape to just under the drilled hole, keeps
it centered in the slot

Here is how Browning created the 60/40 POI on the Lightning series of Citoris.

Notice how on the Lightning, the front of the rib sits lower to the barrel than on a Hunter, while the rib height is the same at the back. Because of the angle, the muzzle
is pointing up a bit.

Last picture a little showing off. This is the 525 stock that I am fitting onto the Lightning action so I can shoot it. It will be for birds and shooting trap due to the POI.

It started out like the bottom one, but since the Lightnings have a higher degree of
oil finish, I had to enhance it a bit to match the forend.

I have to have the tight grip curve as my hand doesn't bend like your folks' do due to a childhood injury. I only have 5 to 10 degrees of bend palm direction and none back and it sits a little crooked. This is the best I could do as an AR-15 grip would simply look hideous on an O/U. I would like it a little tighter, but at least I can shoot my guns.

The pictures of where the recoil impulse is absorbed at is where every replacement stock is going to made sure that they are bearing there. There could be a little dimensional differences along the tang sides that might require a small amount sanded/scraped, etc but you have to have the bearing at the bottom,

or the sides will break off.

There is no getting around this and if a person can't do it themselves, they are going to have to pay to have it done.

This is one reason why I have told MSM2019 that simply getting the existing stock repaired could be a better/less expensive option when you figure in the price of a stock plus labor to make sure it fits, plus shipping etc.

Stocks go for around $400 plus for 16ga guns due to the scarcity. So $400 plus shipping plus fitting etc goes a long way towards having a stockmaker simply match the grain and graft in pieces to bring the existing stock back to dimensions.

It will look close enough for a hunting gun, and won't be a butt (stock) ugly piece to take into the woods. See how I got some humor there Smile

Thanks drcook.........it just depends on which butt you are talking about. Laughing Laughing

As I have stated before, fitting a stock is above my pay grade. If they were metal, I'd have no problem, but since these stocks are wood, I'd have to leave it to a pro.

There could just be a little that needs sanded or none at all. I have a couple that swap back and forth no issue at all.

But you have to say that there is a possibility as the 525 stocks that I am refitting have minor adjustments in the tang area before they even start to go on.

If you get one that goes on, ensuring that it is bedded is critical and easy to do.

MSM2019 I sent you a link to a guy out west there that could fix your existing stock for I believe less (or close to or equal) to what you are going to pay for a stock.

It doesn't cost a penny to take some pictures, email them to him and make a phone call to get an estimate. It might pleasantly surprise you.
