In 2 days I'll be walking the trails up here again, my 16 scattergun in hand. I've been scouting some of my more-favored section of the forest for the last week and I've been seeing good numbers of "road birds", we even had one run across the yard at the house today (which is always a good omen).
I'm still battling some vision issues in my shooting eye and even some other physiological challenges so...I suspect that I'll be humbled regularly this year. But no-matter, hope springs eternal here.
So looking forward to my first trail. |

The season opens in Wisconsin tomorrow, Michigan on Monday. Gonna be hot, thunderstorms tomorrow am and highs around 80 and humid all weekend.
Probably too hot for the dogs, unless we get a very early start... |

Thanks for the report Lloyd good to see someone back at it again, great photos , went for a wee walk over the fields up at the farm on Saturday morning had a couple misses on the woodpigeons they were fair shifting with wind on there tail , that's my excuse anyway, was carrying a 12ga which probably didn't help either , keep the reports coming Lloyd ,
Thanks WJ. |

Ran into a gang of sharptails coming home last evening. |

First sharptails, now ruffies.
Bad weather today has me doing laundry, appliance repair, and cleaning birds. Hope to be walking trails tomorrow, |

Savage: The bite is fair when the weather cooperates.
I killed a sharpie here about 10 years ago, so I knew they were around. Getting close without a dog is pretty tough. This gang of birds crossed the road in front of my vehicle in a nicely lonely place. I got one running and then one flying.
It'll likely be another 10 before I get to do that again. |

How do they taste compared to ruffs?
Great pics BTW, keep them coming! My trip is 3 weeks away, this gets the blood pumping. No chance for a sharpie though. All ruffs & doodles, with maybe some wood duck or mallards. And a lot more hills. |
