My favorite 16 gauge hammer gun is a sweet little Lindner 28" gun with a hole in one barrel that goes all the way into the other barrel. Otherwise, it is in great shape. I have no idea how the rust got so bad the the hole appeared. Some day I will tube it for 28 gauge, but that is expensive. Sleeving is apparently out of the question. I would rather sleeve than tube, but don't know how to approach that.

Low Gun,

I highly recommend Briley for doing any of this kind of work, as AC found out they do a very professional high quality job. Save your money and have Briley do the work.

I haven't tried this but read of a fix to retain the shells in the chambers when hunting with an open gun. The extractors/ejectors can be magnetized and these brass washed steel shells will be retained against falling out but will eject normally. I have a magnetizer/demagnetizer that would do the job, but only hunt with an open gun during field trials, but no shells in the chambers.

Latest 16ga hammergun being restored is a WCScott Pigeon club gun with 28in London fine 3 rod Damascus and quite thick. It should be the ticket when it comes back.

They just keep following me home too.

Another light & early "non-rebounder" and maybe (finally?)...one that I can effectively cock on the flush.

Sadly...not a 16.

I cock my hammers on the flush has rebounding hammers and the safety sears if my thumb slips before I get the hammers all the way back.Do the non rebounding hammer guns have safety sears.Saw a Lc Smith hammer gun on gun broker today a 16 ga.

I would agree with your assessment of this London gun.

Mr. Corso: I do not believe that these earlier guns (early 1870s) have any "safety sears" other than the very solid "half-cock" setting.

This one sort-of found me at a Vintager event early last summer. After trying out several other hammers this past hunting season, this one remained on my mind. After discussing it with the former owner recently (and confirming its continued availability) when I finally saw it again last week, it was a no-brainer.
