Gentlemen,

With my foot and leg injury I have not been out in the Grouse woods this year yet.
Started getting equipment ready this morning and put the Garmin 550 Mini on Charge and one of the single Dogtra collars also. Next step is to stop at a sporting good store to renew my Life time Pa Hunting License. Will probably due that tomorrow. Then I will get my hunting clothes out and check them over and finally load the dog cage into the Explorer. Don't know how long I will be abel to walk in the woods, it depends on how well my foot has healed up as to how long I will be able to walk. It's raining right now and I want to start on a sunny type day, when I 1st go out. We will see how things go in the next day or so.

Looking forward to Grouse hunting, and spending some time alone with my Gordon Setter Grouse dog in the Grouse woods. Can't wait to use my 1904 WR double gun also.

all the best,

Pine Creek/Dave

Citori 16,

Was out Grouse hunting yesterday, very windy. Shadow set a group of 3 Grouse not far off of the parking area of the state Game Lands we were hunting on. The birds were about 80 yards out thru the forest, I spooked them into flight about 50 yards away, trying to get near enough to shoot, the wind carried the noise from the crunchy leaves, that set the birds off before we got in range to shoot.

I also took a bad fall in a rock area where I should not have gone, nicked my good WR gun in 2 small spots. Twisted my knee out of joint, lucky my brother was along to help me back to the Explorer. Slapped my knee back into joint before being helped up off the ground, nothing that has not happened to me before.

all in all a pretty lousy 1st day out in the Grouse woods, I will be a lot more careful the next time out. Doug Carpenter advised me that my Ugartechea 16 guage side lock gun will be done in the next few days, should have it to Grouse hunt with before the end of the month. Hope my knee is feeling better by then.

all the best,

Pine Creek/Dave

All in a day’s grouse hunt.

Heal up steady and take care. Those nicks on your WR are character marks, sad but memorable. Those who know the grouse woods will look upon them as badges of honor. If the gun still works it’s all part of the game.

I know you'll keep picking yourself back up, Dave, hoping you get a favorable weather change and have some opportunities to try each of the guns you're planning on shooting over your Gordon!

kgb,

Glad to hear from you, the weather here has been to warm to really Grouse hunt well. My Ugartechea side lock 16 is not back from Doug Carperters yet. Hoping for some time next week. The WR fits right in with my L.C. Smith side lock double guns, one serious light double gun to Grouse hunt with. My leg and foot are pretty well healed up, looking forward to going out again next week, we will see how things go.
Wish I still owned the Grouse Camp however. Hunting here on the southern tier of Pa is no where near as good as Grouse hunting in Potter County.

all the best,

WJ,

Thanks for the well wishes, I will definitely take it easy and safe this next week, also waiting on my Ugartechea 16 gauge side lock IV/75EX gun to arrive from Doug Carpenter in the net week. Looking forward to having the gun completed after all this time. From the picture Doug sent me he did a great job on the stock work and antique Silver Clips he installed for my Grouse gunning.

Tell your son congrats on owning a fine old midland SXS double gun!
all the best,
