Edited! I found the 0.630 base diam that grafs reported for dr16 is wrong, actual measured at 0.655"
----------
The hulls I will be reloading for skeet are cheddite. I do 3/4oz loads in 12, 20, 28ga, but could do 3/4 or 7/8 for 16ga.
I was about t I buy a case of DR16 before they are gone, but the specs show 0.630" base diameter at Grafs.
[Edit --found a bag I forgot I had, measured dr16 base at 0.655"! Nice.]
16ga bore is 0.665", all gualandi and BPI wads are 0.665" base skirt which will seal great. CB0078 are 0.642" according to BPI specs page... of course Claybuster page is totally blank Sad
All the gualandi or BPI wads are 0.665" diam, same as 16 bore.

This makes me think the dr16 are NOT as good for 7/8oz cheddite loads as maybe CB or sg16 wads? For cheddite hulls and 16ga skeet loads, should I grab a case of DR16 or CB0078 wads? I haven't used either, all prior 16ga reloading has been 1-1/8oz hunting loads.

I've been using the DR-16 wad in my 7/8 oz practice loads and have not encountered any problems. Great stack height and crimps. The clays just powder when I do my part.
I tried 7/8 oz loads with the SG-16 wad and needed overshot wads to prevent dished crimps.

I tested DR-16 with Pressure Trace II system and found no appreciable difference in chamber pressure or muzzle velocity between DR-16 and SG-16 with 7/8 oz loads. The only difference was stack height.

The .630 dimensions graf has listed is not even remotely close , I built the wad to fit all commercial available hulls on the market.

I could go break out the old computer the drawing is on but it isn't necessary , simply put the thing fits .

Look in the archives from 2007 , 2008 .

I gave all of the pertinent information on everything back then , the search is your friend.

I found a bag of dr16 I forgot I owned, I got sent a free bag several xmas ago for winning some post contest and forgot!

I just measured them, base is 0.655".
Fit in my cheddite Herters hulls is good, not tight but decent for greendot.

I just loaded a box up to try tomorrow. Based on several loads in Lymans 6th, as well as tested loads by bowhunter and putz.
Cheddite Herters 2.75" 16ga
Ch209 cx2000
17.0gn green dot
Dr16 wad, zero pressure.
383gn 7/8oz #8 shot
6pt fold.

Fit is decent, decent crimps. Should be 1200fps or so.

Dave seems to me I remember you getting one of the Xmas giveaway, Smiling 😁.

Done that for about 10 years or so roughly , had my Mother pick the numbers, 😁.

Still have yet to pickup the mold , perhaps in a couple of weeks or so .

I’ve used the DRs in Cheddite, Herters and Federals with no fit problems whatsoever. Various powders such as Titewad, Green Dot, International, Clays, 700x, Perfect Pattern and now Vectan AS (which is neck and neck with TW for my favorite). Only cold soaked loads had an issue with certain powders, though PP caused hull separation after 4 or 5 reloads, but none of that had anything to do with the wad. Fillers are occasionally needed for stack height depending on payload and powder.

It really is a great wad.

I loaded up a box of 7/8oz with the DR16 last night using 1x fired Herters cheddite, ch209, 17.0gn green dot, dr16, 383gn #8 shot.
There are numerous similar reference loads in the new Lyman’s 6th, as well as 4 testsheets from Precision that Putz and Dave Ericksen posted here or somewhere that I downloaded, basically 19gn is probably fine.

They shot well! I used SEARCH and read every thread that Nick i.e. Charles Hammack said "DR16" in, ever! Lol, great info, read all the old split petals, leave attached, bent legs, cocked wad etc. Posts. I should have shot a few patterns and chronographed, but had a doctor appt right after skeet, no time!

BUT, I did get a 21, 23, 23 at skeet, and missed the 2 shots at Hi 2 on both 23s due to sun at hold point etc. Otherwise, I liked the breaks a lot. I only found 3 of the bright blue wads afterwards, so they all else went over 30 to 35 yds past a fence. The 3 I recovered had no embeded shot, all 3 had the shot cup cocked 30deg due to collapsed center leg. Doesn't seem to have hurt anything, wads looked good with powder marks above powder seal and on petal outsides. As stated, though I didn't yet pattern, 3 good skeet rounds where all misses were for sure my own aiming error I knew. Makes me feel this will be a good wad for my cheddite hulls and skeet!

I am planning on getting a case from Grafs I guess.
Thanks much to Nick for his yeoman's work in improving options for all 16ga folks, what a fantastic thing to have done in life!!
And thanks again for the free bags you sent me on Christmas, probably the only thing I ever won, and they DID end up being well appreciated now!

I take the CB and flare the over powder cup. After my main shooting season. Usually December I flare enough to last me the next season. Takes about 4 hrs average total. Break that up into half hr seasons. Been doing that for ten years at least. Shooting tramp games. Never a problem in yardage or shootoffs. About half the cost. But I enjoy reloading. 1ozers. Dave in AZ,

Back when Cabelas was selling Herters for $50 a flat w/ free shipping I bought several flats which were reloaded with a load almost the same as yours. 7/8oz, DR16, 17.5 Green Dot, Win 209. Chrony read 1180 fps average. This was with the older black lid Green Dot and it was chronographed on a 40 degree day. Reloaded and shot several thousand of these and every round shot great.

Dennis, that's great to hear! I loaded some last night for sporring clays today and actually bumped powder to 17.3gn due to long targets, thx for the speed check!
