Hopefully Claybuster is going to keep the supply going better than DownRange did and supply some data.

IMO one of the problems with the DR16 is data. Sure, we at 16ga.com have developed our own data, I had 5 loads tested with good results. But all the folks that aren't on 16ga.com don't know a thing about them. So I hope that Claybuster will put some data out there, that should help sell DR16's and insure a steady flow of them to the retailers.

I’d 2nd that.

I would like to see claybuster rework there 16 wad at the base of the powder cup to accommodate the straight wall wad to seal. I just flare the wad. Have never had any to shrink back. It might be the difference in the way I do it.

How do you flare them? I do the same with the relatively few CB’s that I use in a year but I’m always looking for a better way.

I guess I am missing something here. The Gualandi BRG16/21 (SG16) is perfect for 1 oz. and 1 1/8 oz. loads in any of the straight wall hulls. With a .125" nitro card, 7/8 oz. loads crimp perfectly. If you think that the shot cups are too short and it will cause bad patterns....nope. I got better patterns with the BRG16/21 and 1 1/8 oz. loads than I did with the SP16.

How does a 82.3% pattern at 35 yards with .015" of choke sound. That's what I got with a Cheddite 2 3/4" hull, CCI209 primer, 23.0 Grains 800-X, BRG16/21 wad and 1 1/8 oz. of #6 West Coast magnum shot.

I tried the same with the SP16 wad and a modified (.020") choke and got a 85% pattern at 35 yards with a 2.0 to 1 central thickening ratio. When I tried the load with the BRG16/21 wad with the modified choke I got a 90% pattern at 35 yards with a 2.26 to 1 central thickening ratio. I tried the Z2M16 wad at 35 yards with the modified choke and got 84.6% with a 1.9 to 1 central thickening ratio. Those were all 1 1/8 oz. loads at 1,290 FPS or so.

In my estimation, the Claybuster wads aren't worth my time to stretch, when I get performance like that from the Gualandi BRG 16/21 wad.

I have emailed Claybuster about the issue of the over powder cup on the CB0100-16 and CB0078-16 and they denied there is a powder migration problem so, see ya Claybuster.

I love the fact that an Artist designed the Gualandi wads , they are wonderful wads , got it right the first time.

As far as changing an existing dimension on a commercially available wad , well good luck on that one .

Best regards, Nick

Yeah I know, that means a very delicate jig grinding operation that probably is next to impossible. Not sure if it could even be done. Either way I wouldn't want to pay for it.

FallCreek. Process I use. Coffee warmer I stand the wads on the warmer. 6 in a circle. I mount a 2" trailer ball to my bench. When the powder cup gets warm I pick one up by putting my thumb in the base of the shot area at the same time my thumb spreads the pedal then it apply pressure against the cold 2" ball for a couple sec. Next I drop the wad in a container and pick up another to replace the one I just enlarged. Grab the next warm one and enlarge it. Once you get a routine going you can move very quickly. Get a rather going so the powder cup don't get to warn on the cup warmer. Can do several in a minute.

MSM. I agree with what you say. I have no reason to doubt you. The reason I've been doing my process is cost. About have the expense. Also I get similar percentage of shot on the pattern board with 1 oz of 71/2's at 35 yards. With 20 gr of 20/28 powder with I'm mod choke. With full ck it throws to tight of pattern at 35 yards. Approx 8 to 12" circle so I drop back to tmprove mod. About the only thing I shoot in summer is trap games the last 20 yrs. At shootoffs it's not unusual to be behind somewhere of the 27 yrd pad another 15 to 20 yards or more. All depends where the first shooter picks the spot. Never had trouble keeping up with the 12 ga shooters and the one oz load with I'm mod chock. I do use a filler at the bottom of shot cup. But the average on a crona is 1248 fps.
But from the 16 yrd to 25 yrd I use 14.4 gr of highgun . That load calls for longer filler but I still have great results with that load and low recoil. Again it's the cost factor. Good shooting to you all. Hope I didn't make to many mistakes typing on my ph at 2:30 in the morning without my glasses. Hammer Bill

Thank you, Bill. I’m going to give your method a try.

I’m late to this but I’ve been reloading the 16 for only about 15 years. I have enough components to last me maybe until the end but not so many as to become cumbersome. I’m not a target shooter so only load 1 oz and 1 1/8 as it fills my needs. My only regret is I didn’t start loading much sooner in life.
