| With the success of this load , I'm gonns try a 20ga load sort of the same proportions : 12.5 grns PP , long G-wad , Shortened Euro case , and between 3/4 and 7/8 oz shot . Am fairly optimistic ! (after the holidays ). |

| Just sent the test loads out - should know in a week or 10 days how they turned out . |

The load in the Federal hull that tested well, are there any filler wads in that load? If there are where did you put them? Under the DR16? in the shot cup? on top of the shot? and what was the thickness of the filler wad.
What did you end up doing with the Herter's hull load, when it comes to filler wads?
Thanks for the work. |

| Hi Mark .... the tested load had no fillers . Basically at 14grns powder and 7/8 shot . The Herters load had a 28ga filler in it , but had a good dish to it . When Precision got them , they started to run them , but shot leaked out and they stopped . Looked like on the data sheet that 2 loads were run and seemed to go along with the DR load . But that was only 2 loads .... I think I've found a way to get tests out so that Woodie 402 doesn't have to do it .... I'm gonna try a 14grn Rem load , and redo the Herters load with an xtra filler . I know you don't like that , but I have 1600 of those H wads to get rid of - they are the old 11/8 load wads , so filler is needed . |

Great info, this and your 20ga test. Hey, if you resend the 16ga Herters, i stead of adding a filler, I recommend just putting an OS card on top. This has min effect on pressure, less than fillers, is easier to do, keeps shot in, deals with dished crimps, and would give a more useful datapoint I believe.
Thx for all your efforts! I am going to buy some PP for 12, 16, 20ga light loads based on your results, thanks so much! |

well , finally got out of the teens the last couple days , all the way to mid 40's !!! What I thought might be the golden goose here was : RGL , 14grns PP and the 7/8 load . Loaded up a few ( , and the goal was cycling the 48 . RGL case , 14 PP , DR 16 , and 7/8 ... The 48 , not greased up or anything , chucked 4 out smartly , and 4 sat in the chamber ... am gonna go to 14,5 powder and call it good . The 14grn loads fired soundly , and didn't kick anything special . I do believe this might be the ideal load for double barrels that aren't in need of cycling the gun . (or pumps for that matter ) . not worried about pressure , the original load was only 7.3K.... the 28ga load is still in the works . That is gonna be Win case , 9.8 grns PP and 1/2oz shot . edit : my RGL's are all 29/16 long . It is about a 50/50 split between 23/4 and 29/16 . Me and Mikwe Campbell went thru this a few yrs ago - he got all the long cases , and I got all the shorter ones , short chambered M12 . |
