If everyone gets the usage-o-meter up over on SGF and SGW it will bolster the case to get some modifications to the structures, to better help with the uniqueness that the "red-headed step-child" status of the 16 gauge is. A forum for discussion, a forum for loads/ammunition. For sale and just general talk can be in the established venues.
What will really get hurt are the couple people that advertise their pheasant hunting opportunities. The other places will force them to be vetted a bit more, or register as a vendor, etc.
Getting the other sites really active will bring in the new people and give folks a place to just keep going at if/when this site goes away. Which would be shame.
Do not get me wrong. I WANT 16ga.com to stay viable. |

Others have said it but it bears repeating: data mining should be on most of our minds right now considering the time to the current end. There is such a wealth of information on here from loads to guns. A daunting and tedious task but valuable beyond measure.
I continue to learn from this site and I hope that my contributions have helped other 16 ga gunners. |

The domain name (16ga dot com) has been reserved until 2027-03-26
So unless something changes we have less than a year left on this site before it goes away. I sure wish someone here knows or knew Smith to let us know what the scoop is.
It would be a real shame if he is still around but is willing to let this go away rather than let someone else take it over. |

I showed folks how to do a domain name lookup back one page. I don't personally know of any tools to show who is doing the hosting though. If we could find out how long the site hosting was paid up till, would be a good idea of where the countdown clock stands at.
Right now, unless the domain name is reserved again, it is 11 months and counting. |

The problem appears to be that s_long is not responding to PM's, nobody can reach him, and nobody knows what is going on with the site or what its future will be. There is a wealth of knowledge stored here on this site, and it will be a damn shame if it disappears next March when the domain registry expires.
Sure, someone will probably snag the domain name if it is not renewed, but the information here will almost certainly be lost.
It's very unfortunate, but there's really nothing anyone can do about it. Nobody that is active on the site has a direct line to s_long, so the future is - as my 8-Ball says, "Fuzzy, ask again" |
