Joseph Smets was a highly skilled Belgian gunmaker from Liege from the early 1900s through the 1930s.
Evidently a significant number of the surviving examples of his work are 16-gauge. "Fait Par Joseph Smets" will likely be engraved on one barrel with "Fcant D'Armes Liege-Belgique" on the other. They also bear official Liege proof house stamps.
While not all Belgian guns were (& are) known for their quality, his few examples seem to be highly regarded.
Your photography here would tend to confirm that assessment. |

| Thanks guys. Only found 3 of his guns, all well made. Guess he was more of a boutique gun maker. Sorta like Visser. Same thing few guns but quality. |
