As a bargain shopper, I wanted to point this one out:

http://gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=66233442

This is a Montgomery Wards Western Field model 35 ,16 GA. My father has one of these in a 12g and it's a solid smooth action shotgun. Little heavy, maybe.

Old guns sold by Sears, Wards, etc. are of good quality (wood, action, etc.) and are only history now. Time was that sporting goods departments of your local store not only sold guns but had their own brand stamped on them. Now the big boxes are getting rid of their gun racks.

It's a Stevens made on one of John Brownings early patents. A solid gun if looks aren't important. My buddys dad shot one in 20 ga. for 40+years. Our local Wal-Mart just yanked the gun displays monday. I'm glad I've been supporting our local gunshops over the years.

That old pumper is a 520 Stevens. Sold alot of them they did. A lot to the Govt. too.

Can't beleive Wal Mart is quitting gun sales in Pa. thats a shootin and huntin state. Oh well,a guy will just buy at a gunshop and thats better. IMO what they had generally offered is on the low end of the gun scale anyhoo. We can live without WalMart ! My Wife and I do. Rolling Eyes

I have been watching that very gun myself. I have a Mont. Ward version 620 Stevens. It is becoming my favorite gun. The design is truly neat, but I see why they were not cost effective to mfg.
