Well, its not complete junk, but I wouldn't give half their price for it.
wood looks refinished and I would bet a dollar to a donut hole that the reciever has been reblued. The barrels probably have not been, but need it. That big smooth round reciever was a natural carrying point and the blue wore off fairly quickly. You will never see an all original 24 with more blue on the reciever than on the barrels like this one has, and what are all those spots??? Oh, and nice sheet metal screw in the front of the triggerguard. What it does have going for it is that it looks to be in fair shape overall, I can't see any dents in the barrels and no big scratches or dents in the wood.
Also it is in the more uncommon choke combination of imp.cyl./mod. Winchester records availability suck so total # of 24's in 16 is unknown but from my limited research guesstimated at around maybe 20% of total so around 20-25,000. Most were choked tighter (m & f) so there were quite probably less than 1/3 of those in this configuration.
I bought a 24 recently for $400 that was in better shape except the stock had about an 1/8" thick varnish, luckily I don't think the guy new what sandpaper was and just slopped it on.

Collectors in Houston is known in the Southwest as being a bit on the "proud" side when it comes to pricing. |

I bought one much nicer on AA for $476. I had looked at this one many times but the sheet metal screw made me leary. |

I saw ad for the one that you bought. Looks pretty darn good. Get back home safe and enjoy it.

In this politically charged climate, far too many folks forget what it is that you, and other brave souls are doing for our freedoms.
Please accept my heartfelt thanks. Please send me a P.M. with your address. I'd like to send you a box or two of shells.
Come home safe,
Peter Weber, and family. |
